I have been to the ENT and she tried to teach me to pop my ears b/c I have SERIOUS pain on planes and my left ear stays blocked for a good 2 days after getting off a plane. I even feel the pressure difference when going up even SLIGHT hills in the CAR! Does anyone have a way that works? I'm open to many methods as I have yet to find one that works for me. Thanks.

I have the same problem but not so bad....but it'll go eventually....
U can :
1.SUCK ON SWEETS / CHEW GUM
2.YAWN
3.GO TO A DOCTOR & GET IT CHECKED

I usually do 1 and 2...but in ur case maybe u should go and see a doctor.

or 4. CLOSE ur nose with both ur fingers and swallow the saliver in ur mouth.

hope this helps.

Your ears pop to let pressure into, or out of your head.... for instance, ariplanes climb to very hight altitudes, rather quickly. Though the cabin is pressurized, it's not perfect, and the pressure inside becomes less. If you were to climb that high that fast in an open cockpit, if your ears didn't pop, your head would explode. Explode because the higher you go, the less pressure, and if your ears weren't popping to keep the same pressue, the pressure in your head would try to go out and out and out till it finally exploded, the oppisite happens when you decend, either into water, or from a plane. As a plane decends, the air pressure rises. So there's more pressure pushing on your head, if your ears didn't pop inwards (usually more painful) your head would implode. Hopefully that helps you.

Many do well with gum. I have to hold my nose closed and blow out gently to make enough pressure to clear them. Do this Scuba Diving also.
One thing you may want to do. Next time you go to the Doctor ask about your ears needing cleaned. Sometimes the nurse can squirt some hot water in there and remove a wax plug. You may not realize it there. Ask what she do and pay close attention and next time you know how to do this your self. Just buy a Bulb thingy at Wal-Wort or the Drug Store. Drug Store can offer some more free advice in most cases.

I chew gum like a mad woman. Sucking on hard candy can help and swallow real hard when you drink your beverage.

Also about every half hour on the flight I pinch my nose closed with my fingers and then try to snort out, like i am going to blow my nose, two or three times.

I always chew gum, and make sure I have something to drink b/c the swallowing helps. And as a last resort, I force myself to yawn over and over. That seems to help the most.

My mother always gave me chewing gum any time I flew to make certain my ears popped. I still do it as an adult and it seems to work pretty well. That way it is pretty automatic without having to "try" to pop your ears.

Try eating or chewing gum other wise they make earplugs that are made for flying, you should be able to get them at wal-mart or any other store or talk to your doctor.
