Ok so really Satan isn't any worse than God, just less powerful?

They both want to be worshipped?

So where does the stuff about Hell and eternal torment come into it?

Dunk - erm, if angels didnt have the choice to not worship God, how could Satan possibly have rebelled and not worshiped God?

God is deemed the Most High over all of the earth (Psalm 83:18), thus he has full authority over all that he creates. He created Satan, but not the way he is now. Satan started out as a righteous angel just like his brothers and he loved God. But something in him made him feel like he wanted to be worshiped and loved exactly how God was. That led him to cultivate a powerful desire to get what he wanted, so he manipulated the situation in the garden of Eden, thus making himself a god in the process.

people say it is pride. others say rebellion is a sin. But in the
begining there's no sin. Note- this happened before the creation of man.And satan is next after the God-head according to theologians.
moreso, there's no commandment or law that pride or rebellion is a sin
Also it's only God that knows or says someting is bad or good
So, when he acclaims the glory that's supposed to be God's he may have not known he had sinned and that his act is detestable to God

Satan thought a lot of his beauty and his intelligence and he wanted to have the worship for himself that would be given to God, so, after thinking about it for some time he took action to try to bring this about. Today he still claims the worship of people byblinding them away from God's truth(2Corinthians4:4)

Satan was once the chief angel in Heaven known as Lucifer, which means "light bearer". He was the "Annointed Cherub" that covered the throne of God; no one was higher than he was acccording to Ezekiel 28. Verse 15 of that chapter says, "Thou was perfect in thy ways...until iniquity was found in thee" Isaiah 14:12 tells of Lucifer's fall. Drawing from Ezekiel 28:17, Lucifer's heart filled with pride. That is number one on God's hate list in Proverbs 6:16, "These six things doth the Lord hate:...a proud look..." Lucifer, now Satan (meaning adversary) makes 5 "I will" statements in Isaiah 14. Each one is an attempt to be greater than God and have more power than Him. According to Revelation 12, Satan is cast out of Heaven with 1/3 of the angels (those that foolishly followed Satan) for his rebellion and was free to roam this world. His end will ultimately be the Lake of Fire to be tormented for eternity for his treason and rebellion according to Revelation 20:10

The Bible tells us Lucifer was an archangel, who led the angelic choir. He grew proud and arrogant and led a rebellion which marred the then Universe. Satan means "accuser" because he brings charges against God's people, and he is "the devil" which means "one who opposes".

Isaiah 14:12-14
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
It was his desire to be above God that got him sent down and he took a third of the angels with him (known as demons)
Why did satan want to be like God? Why does anyone, who knows.

According to John Milton in his poem "Paradise Lost", Satan is a tragic figure that lost favor with God for standing up to a tyrant. He didn't like the way heaven was run and decided to form an uprising to seize power. Basically, he had a failed coup d'etat. The poem is a mixture of Biblical accounts mixed with Greek mythology. I like this story because it shows him as a tragic heroic figure. The traditional story is unrealistic because he is simply shown as pure evil. Real people (or angels in this case) are much more complex and have a mixture of good and evil in their hearts.

The consensus seems to be that when God created the Angels they did not all see Him face to face and went thru a time of testing,Lucifer the chief Angel was in command of probably billions of others and began to grow proud and arrogant eventually believing that he was like God Himself.
He challenged God`s authority over him and when God revealed to him that He would create Mankind and His Son would redeem them it was too much for Lucifer`s arrogant ego.

The bible says it was because of his vanity.
He was beautiful.
I also think he was jealous of humans and God's love for them. Satan was not kicked out of the garden UNTIL he tempted Adam and Eve. The bible says he was guardian Cherub of Eden. Then he was booted out.

Ezekiel 28:
'This is what the Sovereign LORD says:
" 'You were the model of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

13 You were in Eden,
the garden of God;
every precious stone adorned you:
ruby, topaz and emerald,
chrysolite, onyx and jasper,
sapphire, [b] turquoise and beryl. [c]
Your settings and mountings [d] were made of gold;
on the day you were created they were prepared.

14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
for so I ordained you.
You were on the holy mount of God;
you walked among the fiery stones.

15 You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created
till wickedness was found in you.

16 Through your widespread trade
you were filled with violence,
and you sinned.
So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
and I expelled you, O guardian cherub,
from among the fiery stones.

17 Your heart became proud
on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom
because of your splendor.
So I threw you to the earth;
I made a spectacle of you before kings.

18 By your many sins and dishonest trade
you have desecrated your sanctuaries.
So I made a fire come out from you,
and it consumed you,
and I reduced you to ashes on the ground
in the sight of all who were watching.

19 All the nations who knew you
are appalled at you;
you have come to a horrible end
and will be no more.' "

Because he thought it was unfair that God made Angels not have any choice about wordhiping Godl, and then made Humans who could choose not to worship God, yet offered heaven to Humans! Satan thought he could do better! I personaly think that the Devil isn't such a bad bloke and he gets a lot of bad press!
