It's great news. We can actually come up with "moral codes" that do not allow for blatant lies.Unlike the "christian" pastor who blatantly lied and stated that scientists have found proof of life on a planet 120 trillion miles away, a blatant, willful lie, and somehow have the nerve to give an answer about the atheist "moral code"

Very well put. Theists hijacked the concept of morals and ethics, but as they are generally not as educated about actual history they do not know that the Ancient Greeks formed the first real moral code. Long before Jews or Christians ever existed.

I would hate to live in your world! You paint a picture of serenity, but underneath it all, your "good news" is a lie and full of chaos. The truth does not need your acknowledgement, but will exist even without you and me. I'm not perfect by no means, but just remember, The world is ending so God can give us a better one, Someone is judging us, but not just for the bad things we do. You don't have to suffer in hell forever, if you make right choices. Moral code is already instilled inside of us by the spirit of God who wrote the book. WOW, even animals do things out of the box when in the presence of greatness. Getting up early Sunday aint so bad when your in the presence of the one who created you. You'll be giving away your money until your dying day, even to the government. Guilt is an automatic response to sin. You don't have to pray, you need to pray. He (Jesus) knows more about your existance than you ever will. There may not be any way to trace Him, but with God all things are possible! Wisdom!

Well put! I don't understand why people feel that atheists cannot be moral. I don't lie, murder, cheat people, or steal, I work for a non-profit, I volunteer, and I try to protect the environment. Yep, I can see how all that is amoral.
And remember, if you're only 'good' because of god/religion/the bible, you're not really good, you're just a suck up. Be moral because it's the right way to be, not because an imaginary friend tells you to be!

It would be a sad day if the good news of atheism became universal. There'd only remain weather and politics to complain about.
But I guess we'd all be out and about raping and pillaging and raising mayhem with our immoral character instead of spending quality time on the internet, so you'll have to take the bitter with the sweet.
Plus, what the hell would we do with th Creation Museum?

Wow! I never thought of it that way! I'll change my way of thinking right... pfft! Ha ha ha! Sorry. I couldn't keep it going. It was just too funny. :-)
Seriously, for many people, all of this is true with theism, too. So what is your point? Meanwhile, some atheists (but not all, of course) live in fear of their own death. If they are wrong, they could (in theory, but I don't personally believe this) go to hell anyway. If they are right, then they will die and be nothing. They don't have anywhere to turn when they are alone and need emotional support. They don't GET to pray. They don't have a moral code based on ANYTHING except their own selfishness and often faulty reasoning. They often feel guilty anyway, because they are responsible for all their own problems. No one is judging them? How about EVERYONE is judging them? Instead of a potentially perfect God, they have a definite imperfect humanity to judge them. And the world is still going to end someday, and human suffering will go on with no chance of reprieve.
Of course, all those negative things can be applied to some religious people, too, just as the positive things you mentioned can be applied to many religious folks as well. In other words, you are stereotyping religion, and don't really understand it as well as you think you do. I just stereotyped atheism, but only to make a point. The fact is: to each his own. I, personally, wouldn't trade my theism for atheism for anything. But you are free to believe what you want to. It's a free country. You just don't know what you're missing. Of course, arguably, neither do I.

Very interesting and of course, as an atheist, I completely agree...what I find humorous is all the obvious christians saying how atheists are really scared of death and all...we don't let ourselves believe in an imaginary deity in order to get us to an imagined place such as heaven...we accept the fact that when we die that's it....so we make the most of the life we have and we are able to live that life with morals that do not need to come from any *god*...and we are ALL going to die and we will all be just as dead as the person who died before us....excellent question...thanks...it just goes to show the ignorant mindset of *some* christians....
edited to add - like the person above me...dude! caps lock please!

Living in Europe where atheism is the norm it's funny to see disbelief even being an issue. The religionists in the US need to broaden their awareness of other cultures and realise that in many parts of the world Christianity is gone and it's never coming back.

I absolutely agree,,! think you have read my mind,,,,,,,,,,but,, if everyone uses common sense when they think,, who will give the fear mongers at the pulpits their hard earned money, so some bible thumper can golf all week, or get a 22 million dollar vacation home, paid for by church money, like Baker did,, and claim God would want him to have restful place to study the bible? Your last line, proves there is no god,,,or it proves he is a powerless liar,,so, no god at all. I cringe, at the idea of people living in fear of God, yet claiming to love him,,talk about hypocracy at its best! O.K,, to you fine people, that realy do mean well, go to church, etc,,, WHY should I claim to love a god, that will allow such suffering,in this life,,kids getting used,, murdered, tortured,,??? WHy should I claim, or want to, love a god that threatens to burn my butt in hell forever, if I do not kiss his ***??? That is not love,,that is FEAR!!!!!!!!!!

I prefer to believe a story is either true or it's false, regardless of which would make me feel better, but it's certainly encouraging that my chosen position is the more comfortable one.
