The future is not written in stone!
(Couldn't help myself - I'm a total Heroes nerd and just couldn't resist.)
Seriously though, I don't think it is. How can it be? Every day our choices affect what happens to us. Even the smallest thing can make a huge ripple somewhere down the road. Personally I think it's exciting to see what's going to happen, good or bad. Life would be boring if we knew ahead of time what consequences our actions would have.

The person who mentioned Hal Lindsay is trying to mislead you. If one really viewed the Book of Daniel as a prophetic book, then one might have to believe that the future is already set in stone. But the Book of Daniel was written in light of the events it "predicts". It perfectly describes the history of Judea's neighbors, Syria and Egypt, in the period leading up to the reign of Antiochus IV, his desecration of the temple (the "abomination of desolation" or "desolating sacrilege") and the Maccabean revolt. Then it says he dies and the world ends. As with other apocalyptic works, this one too is written in light of the events to provide guidance for those living in the author's time.
Experience suggests the future is not set in stone, and even other parts of the Bible suggest that prophecy (as opposed to apocalyptic literature like Daniel) is not about foretelling the future, but warning about future disaster precisely so that people will change course and avoid it. From this perspective, freedom is a reality, and experience seems to confirm that.

According to the Holy Bible the future is already written. There are hundreds of prophecies written in the Bible that have already come true....according to the Word,,this place we call Planet Earth is in its last stages. You can read the last book of the Bible called "Revelation", but I am not sure you will/would understand it. A good book on tying it all together is one of Hal Lindsey's called "The Late Great Planet Earth." Really breaks it down and lets you see things as they are really happening today.
You do have a choice to a point. But that only pertains to your life. Your choice between choosing Eternal life vs. a life of damanation again according to the Christians "Holy Bible."

Sylar this is a common misconception and no, the future is not already written,we have today only and we live this from moment to moment, you are free to choose your own destiny in life and God puts no restrictions on your free will choices, but what you choose to do today may well have a bearing on your future.

since God created time as an offshoot of material existence, (time is a tool we sentient beings use to deal with our reality) he exists outside of it. from gods point of view, the past, present and future are all one. he knows every bit of all 3 concepts. however, since he gifted us with free will (we call the shots) he functions as an observer and judge. example:God is standing on a tall building overlooking the intersection of 2 streets. he observes 2 cars speeding toward the intersection. traffic lights dont work. he is in the present and knows that in the immediate future if they dont slow down they will crash. he wont cause a crash, but he knows the outcome depending on each drivers choice.

There isn't anymore freedom of speech!!! Take judge Judy for example. She is allowed to talk to you like a dog but you can't say anything negative to her you will be in contempt of the court. On the street if you speak your mind and offend someone you could be put in jail for slander. A couple of atheist had a fit over prayer in school and now it is removed, what about all the Christians? We didn't have a say in that. Freedoms of speech is no more and hasn't been for about 10 years.

Human beings are the only species on Earth that have a free will. You can choose to reject God, or accept Him; those are your choices. And yes, the future has already been written.

If you were a puritanical calvinist, you would have believed in 'predestination', and there is nothing you can do about our choices. Actually, none of us can actually prove that this is not true, as far-fetched as it may sound
