I ordered a dress from David's Bridal. It is supposed to arrive August 1st. My wedding is August 11th. We had to pay for it up front. They assured me that in the past 4 years they have only had one dress arrive later than promised. It does make me nervous. We paid with a credit card. I have heard that no sale is really final when paid by credit card.

Does anyone have any related experience with this? I just want to know my options BEFORE anything goes wrong. And if the dress doesn't arrive in time, obviously, I won't need it.

I am also holding on to an older gown that could work if I need a backup plan. It's a little big for me, but since it's a lace up back, it would be OK in a pinch.

A side note: The dress is not being custom ordered and will not be altered until it arrives. Which also begs the question of WHY it is going to take so long when they say they are ordering from their warehouse!

I am not looking for a way out of it as someone suggests, just a way to cover my a$$ if they don't live up to their end. And I had two consultants AND the manager telling me that it won't be late, etc. etc.

If you order a dress from David's, whether you pay in cash or credit, the sale is final. There's nothing you can do about it really... I had this experience there when I bought a bridesmaids dress for a wedding I was to be in.

The bride called off the wedding just two weeks after having us buy the gowns. David's said "too bad" and I still had to take the dress. It really sucked.

But, don't worry, it should get to you on time, especially since the arrival date is still a few months away. Try not to stress too much; you have a lot on your plate right now!

I have to agree with most here that all sales are final.
Even getting a dress from a smaller store its the same thing the minute they order the dress for you and you put money done do not plan on not getting that dress.
I had called off my wedding in the late fall of 2004 but had ordered and paid the first payment on the dress.
I did have a co-worker who purchased a dress from Davids bridal and was going to get that dress but in the mean time she found a better dress that she really liked better. So, she ended up having two wedding dresses. I think something needs to change because we are all getting into times where money is tight and we need to be flex-able with all our plans.

I think they just try to scare you. David's Bridal was trying to force my friend to buy a dress off of the rack that had make up smears and tears all through it. (As it was a try-on dress for quite a while). As the maid-of-honor to a shy friend, I insisted that she needed to order in a new gown. They said it was her fault for "waiting until the last minute". (We came at the beginning of June for a September 24th wedding...the wedding was rushed because my friend's mom was just diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.) Even after I gave them the details, they didn't care. They said the dress might not arrive until the week before the wedding, at the latest, and she was better off buying the gross try-on dress. I demanded they order her a new one, and they did.

She got it in less than one month!

I also got my dress from David's Bridal, but the one I got just happened to be brand new, and I was the only one to try it on.

Unfortunately, yes, all sales are final. They make you sign a mini-contract on a receipt before you purchase the gown. The only way to get the charge off of the card is to dispute it with the credit card company. Chances of them taking the charge off are not very good at all, considering the contract that you signed. Sorry.

How long ago did you order the dress? Keep calling them for updates. They might put a rush on your order if you bother them enough! :)

My wedding is in August, I had my hostess order her dress in April. Everytime I tried to check the status of the dress, they could not find it. Turns out for some reason it was not in the system. It was not too late to put the dress in the system but we still made them refund our money because we did not trust them. If your dress does not arrive the day it is supposed to, call your credit card company and have the charges reversed. Don't even argue with them. I don't think you should be nervous but you sure did cut it close. Have you figured out what you are going to do if the dress does not come on time?

A credit card is the best way to pay as the credit card company will reverse the charges for you if there is a problem. David's Bridal has a good reputation. The only issues may be having enough time for alterations if you've lost weight. Lots of brides do lose weight right before a wedding Good Luck and Congratulations

It takes them so long to get the dress in because they have to cut the dress so it usually takes 6-8 weeks to get a dress in from any where house, also it usually takes around 2 weeks for alterations i cant believe that they are cutting it so close. You will get your money back if it doesn't arrive on time, but you have to be very vocal about when you need your dress and if you don't get it you want your money back. the consultants will try to talk you in to a new dress or or give you store credit just talk to a manager immediately don't beet around the bush with their bull.

If they told you that the sale is final it is. You cannot un-do a credit card transaction because they (the sotre) already has your money, otherwise they wouldn't have ordered the dress. Final is final unless there was an additional clause that stated that in the event the dress doesn't arrive you get your money back...etc. But even then, it's your word against theirs.

David's bridal made me pay upfropnt. They told me it would be 6 to 8 weeks to arrive. 4-days later they were calling me to tell me the dress was in.

I ordered a wedding dress off ebay which didn't arrive until after my wedding. I'm still arguing with my credit card company about it. You may be able to get your money back, but it will be a hassle.

Yes in any experience I've had wedding gown sales are final because they are usually altered and wutnot. However if your dress does not get to you in time I think they probably refund your money. Congratulations on your wedding!
