If you do not want to breed her then I would fix her right away. It is a quick procedure, and she will be up and around in about 2 days. The hardest part about spaying is trying to keep them quiet for 10 days. And allowing a dog to age without spaying or having puppies opens her up to a pyometra, which is a dangerous condition that might kill her.
If you want to breed her, then don't spay. But don't let her get 8 or10 or twelve without doing one or the other.

If you are not going to breed or show her get her spayed. It is so much better for the dog health wise as her risk of mammary and uterine cancer drops extremely. You will also not have to deal with the heat cycle mess and the possibility of an accidental breeding. They recover rather quickly and you will most likely not even notice that much of a change in her even a few days after. Most vets don't use the old fashioned stitches anymore (at least according to my vet they don't and didn't on my baby girl). It is just a good idea to have it done for her, you and any pups from an accidental breed.

Females tend to be less "bitchy" when they are spayed. Not all, but a good majority keep good character (given it is raised properly).
The cons of not having it spayed are, in all honesty, cycles are a pain in the butt! The poor girl bleeds everywhere and although you aren't around dogs, males can smell that stuff from up to and mot limited to two miles away and will do whatever it takes to get to that smell.
The stitches will heal and you really won't have to bother with them much after the first day or two. Honestly besides it being better to spay her for pregnancy purposes and such, it's just easier for you and her both.

Definitely consider having her spayed. It's practically a routine procedure that will not have any long term negative effects on your dog. Stitches heal quickly and are not painful. You won't have to worry about her going into heat, having mood swings, and getting pregnant. It's likely her temperment will be more even. A responsible pet owner who has no intention on breeding their dog should always seriously consider having their animal spayed/neutered.

If you have no plans on breeding I would have her spayed. The cons are she will be a little sore for 3 days. The pros...she will never be harassed by any male dogs and it should make her a lot more quiet and homey. She wont come into season and that can be messy if your dog is inside. They drip blood!!

Ignore these idiots that say 'It makes the dog happier!' to get slit open and have parts of them taken out. It's not true. Rarely does the dog give a damn one way or the other.
THAT said.
Unless you intend to breed your little girl and show her to championship levels? Yes, get her spayed. It sounds like you love Lucy. If you aren't financially sound enough to take her to the emergency room and get a c-section done on her because a larger dog mated with her... get her spayed. Soon, too. And don't let her out of your sight until she IS spayed from now on. She's getting old enough that she'll start attracting the wrong kind of attention from her 'playmates'.

Well when we got our male dog fixed they said " he might be a little drowsy." For us he was not at all. Now if you get her fixed and she bites her stictches ask yourr vet, or go to a pet store for a cone. this is what a dog cone looks like:

It DOES NOT hurt them.
When your dog is fixed they put it to sleepp or they put numbing mediciene on it, so it won't hurt.
NOW for pros and cons!!! :)
Good thing: (if you get her fixed)
She won't get pregnant, even if she is not around dogs, some dogs when in heat go crazy and even jump over fences!
Bad things: (if not fixed)
When not fixed, they pee more in the house to mark there territory.

I would spay her at 6 months. It makes them a happier pet, less nippy, doesn't have to go through a messy heat. Nothing but pros on this one. Spaying has no effect on their personalities. Post operative care is not that hard on them. Within a week you will have your little one back to normal.

well you should get her fixed because you will cut down on her chances of getting several types of female cancers and she will be a happier girl if she is not coming into heat and you will not have strange boy dogs around your neighborhood looking about for her .
