Everyone believes they are a part of the "only true church". Makes them feel special... set apart from the rest. Problem is, just saying it doesn't make it true.... doesn't make one special. And most assuredly, just claiming to be "set apart" doesn't make one set apart.
People would rather be remembered by their claims than their actions. If only life were that easy, we'd all be kings/queens.

because it contradicts Jesus's word that the law (church) was made for man, not man for the church.
There are a variety of churches because there are a variety of needs, and the church is here to serve the needs of humanity, not the other way around.
Saying there is only one church is a direct contradiction of Christ.

The one true church is the body of believers of Jesus Christ. The "church" that is talked of in the bible is not talking about methodist, baptist, catholic, etc. It is talking about ALL the believers.
