Her abduction is a terrible thing and I feel for her parents, but in keeping with the way SOME christians think, how is her abduction explained ?

1. Why did god allow it to happen ?
a) cos he could not prevent it - meaning he is not all powerful.
b) cos he did not want to prevent it - meaning that he is a mean sob.
c) god does not exist

2. With millions of people now praying for her safe return, why does god not return her ?
a) cos he cannot return her ? - meaning he is not all powerful.
b) cos he does not want to - meaning that he is a mean sob.
c) god does not exist

3. Now that the pope is involved, what additional effect will he have?
a) he has a direct line to god - so he will help.
b) none - god will do his own will
c) none - god does not exist

OR

Maybe her abduction was the work of satan, but I thought god created satan. If it was the work of satan and god cannot control him, then god is not all powerful, he is a sob or he does not exist.?

Hi. Playing devils advocate here... or God's advocate, as the case may be.

1. Why did god allow it to happen ?
Maybe He did not want to prevent it because it will serve some higher purpose. Look at Adam Walsh. That was tragoc and awful and horrific... but if it had never happened, how many other abducted children would not have been found through his father's work? Of course the argument could be made that God could prevent the other children's abductions, too, if he wanted to, but what if the parents are meant to learn something fro it? MAYBE there IS a plan that we cannot understand. In some religions, it is believed that we choose our parents before birth, knowing what will happen to us, and sometimes it is for our benefit, and sometimes for theirs. It COULD be.

2. With millions of people now praying for her safe return, why does god not return her ?

See above.

3. Now that the pope is involved, what additional effect will he have?

b) none - god will do his own will

Personally, I think Satan is a myth and God is a hypothetical.

Firstly, I do not think the abduction of Madeleine McCann is appropriate to use as a whip against anyone's beliefs. She is just one missing child and the story has run its course, but the nature of that story makes such use exploitative.

Secondly, I hope that the answers you've had reflect the unwillingness of more cowardly theists to answer at all, rather than a general air of judgmental moral superiority. Some of these people deserve a terrible loss of their own. Though they won't get it, because there is no providence.

Her parents had the free will to care for the child or not. They chose not.

Good point.
Though proving the contradictory nature of religion, you will undoubtedly get rationalizations from those who believe.

Those with religion delusion can rationalize anything.

Are you serious? YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT "GOOD" IS!!! We cannot possibly fathom ultimate good. To look at your temporal surroundings and decide by your erroneous human wit what's good or bad is narrow-minded. Lots of bad things happen throughout history, with terrible beginnings and great outcomes.

God allowed it to happen, He's no respecter of persons.
