You are so right; this IS rude, and it's always been one of my pet peeves. It's nobody's business to tell someone else how he or she looks, in my opinion. We all know how we look, and usually, why.
The old saying, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" is the social rule I go by, and wish everybody did! IF a person is really concerned about the well-being of another, the thing to do is simply to ask, "How are you feeling?" There's no need to make any comment at all on the person's appearance. Let her tell you about feeling tired, if she wants to!
As for a retort, it depends on my mood. Sometimes I say,
"that's funny, I was just thinking the same thing about you----do
YOU feel tired?" And then other times, I just smile and ignore it completely.
Anyway, I think you are doing a great job carrying so much responsibility and I wish you well!

Do yourself a favor and disregard their statements, don't fall in their trap of being inconsiderate and so darn shallow minded. You may be tired, and look pale but its only for another month. I think pregnant women have a certain glow that is beautiful. But to contribute just one statement reluctantly tell them to go look in the mirror, and see what pale really looks like. I contend my first answer really is what I wish you to think about doing.

You could try ignoring the comment because it's rude, retaliating might encourage the person saying it to aggravate you some more. When it was said to me, I just looked blankly at the person saying it, and both times they just went away, because I didn't show that I was offended. They are obviously silly people, considering that you are an expectant mother. Don't give them another thought, it's not worth it.

"You look fat"
"If you were 8 months pregnant, had to get up at 0445 to work ten grueling hours, then had to go home to take care of a six month old, you'd be tired too!"

Don't be a bit*ch, they are concerned. If you look AND ARE tired, perhaps you'd better think about that baby and try to get more rest and not let little comments bother you so much.

tell them, "I work, I have a life, and put my family before me. I am a responsible adult. I am tired for a reason, for shelter, food, taking care of my family so we can have a better life."

If you feel the person in question is trying to humiliate or embarrass you, then just say:
"Who are you trying to embarrass me, or yourself?"
This normally shows the people with passive agressive behaviours that you know what game they are playing.
Good luck and remember your sense of your own beauty does not come from anyone elses opinion.

Yeah and you still look ugly, you were ugly yesterday, your ugly today and you will be ugly tomorrow. Or try this one "I was tired from talking to your mother, she said she is tired of taking care of a 30 yr old man who walks around the house in spider man underwear, cowboy boots and a football helmet, eating cereal out of a dayum salad bowl
