Richard, it doesn't really work like that. Sometimes we get given names of spirits who have passed over but often we will see clairvoyantly a person (spirit) who we can describe or we might just get father, grandfather etc. Some mediums who have had the gift since childhood can communicate more strongly and they seem to come up with the name of the person who has come through. Hope this explains it for you.

They are not Dead if they answer you back - they just don't use a physical body any more or they have gone to a dimension where everyone has increased telepathic powers -either that or one is developing schizophrenia!

we all talk to the dead all the time. Spiritually, most people are dead by comparison to the awake state :-)

The dead go to one of two places, Hades (Known as the holding place of the dead) or those who are in Christ go to be with him.

Richard you can talk to the dead, people were dead up to the time Jesus was crucified. Then the minute Jesus rose from the dead, all who were condemned to death rose as well read Matthew 27;v51. Jesus released them. There is no death.only life everlasting.

How can anyone talk to someone who is dead. Dead means deceased as in not functioning. When you are dead you are dead - eternal nothingness, unaware, completely obliterated, unable to speak.
