Are like bugs of the sea? Why do people get grossed out by the thought of eating bugs but they would eat these things? What's the difference between eating a shrimp and eating a grasshopper really?

Technically they are the "bugs", "snails" etc of the sea.

As for difference between shrimp & grasshopper.

Grasshopper is dry & doesn't taste of much, shrimp is juicy and tastes of the sea.

All of us eat bugs. You may not know it at the time. The flour that is used to make all baked things has bug and bug parts in it. The government even list the amount of bugs allowed, whole.smashed or powdered per ton of flour.Crushed bugs are in the colorings used in you food.
I will admit I like the ones that you say are from the sea, however the one that I eat everyday are not to bad either.

It's the same as the difference between eating beef and eating horse. Nothing wrong with it, just the stigma attached to it as being "gross" or "wrong".
