I have always suffered from mouth ulcers, and noticed lately I have had more when i've eaten tomatoes. I love tomatoes, but i did one of those chinese allergy tests once which told me I had an allergy to them? I dismissed it, but maybe it was right! Anyone else had similar problems?

Tomatoes are part of the Belladonna family (as are potatoes). Many people following a macrobiotic diet won't eat tomatoes because they believe they are poisonous. I sometimes find that tomatoes sting my mouth if I eat them raw. Cooked doesn't seem to be a problem. They can be very acidic.

You may have a slight intolerance to them and then you will find that the reaction is stronger if your body is already under stress from other allergens or environmental factors. But unless they are causing you major problems I wouldn't cut them out of your diet completely. Just eat them in moderation.

Tomatoes Mouth Ulcers

The retainer might be causing some irritation. My son had braces for awhile and he found he often got sores inside his mouth where the braces touched. If it's not the retainer, you may have low iron or B12 in your blood. Ulcers in the mouth are often a symptom of this. I've had low iron for a couple of years now and when I don't have it under control I get ulcers. Stress and fatigue can also play a part in ulcers as can certain foods like tomatoes.

Not sure if they can cause mouth ulcers, but the are very acidic so they will certainly aggravate them, but dont stop eating them, you usually get mouth ulcers when you are run down, so check you are eating a good diet, dont give up the tomatoes they are a superfood and are full of anti oxidents!!

Yes, allergies, acid food, eating something to much and lack of vitamin B all cause canker sores.

So if you are eating tomatoes and you are allergic, you're hitting two of those criteria (tomatoes are slightly acidic).

Yes, pineapples and oranges will do it too if you eat plenty. It is the acid in them that causes the ulcer.

Yes you can have an allergy , too much boiled milk does it for Me and eating too much bread its because the stomach starts to produce too much acid to digest the food .

Rinse your mouth out with bi carbonate of soda this helps neutralize the acid it is frequent that you crave your allergy trigger

Its possible. But if you had a small cut, the tomato might have inflamed it on that occasion.
