Are rubies used in other products for the use of low friction?
They seam to be used in watches because "they're the best". But now i wonder why i never really see them used anywhere else.

I have seen jewels (sapphire and ruby if I remember correctly) used in a mechanical flow meter for metering potable water before.

Jewels such as diamonds are used extensively for cutting purposes. Special cutting discs which are abraded with industrial diamonds are used for cutting through extremely hard substances.
