I just wanted to know if I was anorexic... I'm a 14 year old girl and since the start of the year (I weighed 60kg then), I've been concious of what I eat and about exercise. I lost 5-6kg due to that but I still feel bad about my body image and the way I look. I have a large nose and I feel if I can't have a nice face, at least have a nice body. I looked up anorexia nervosa in wikipedia and I have a lot of the symptoms - my bones creak, my period has been really late lately, my lips are chapped, I have a short temper, lanugo hair on my body, I exercise for atleast 50 minutes per day (week day), I worry far too much about food and about gaining weight from it. I'd ideally like to weigh 52 kg, but I just don't know what to do...I'd like to tone my stomach and calfs, because I feel they are fat. But if I am anorexic (judging by the number of symptoms I have, I probably am), what should I do? How should I tell my mum about this? Or should I tell my best friend or older sister? Thank-you.

I'm also a vegetarian - I refuse to eat at major eateries like McD's or KFC.

Your not anorexic unless you don't eat. END OF STORY! If you still eat healthily, you are not anorexic. Weight has nothing to do with it except for the fact you want to lose it, and until it comes to really bad anorexics who may die unless they increase their weight, it isn't relevant. Now you could become anorexic, and judging by your symptoms, you may be at danger for becoming anorexic. The main question is, Do you eat healthily? If you want to tone your body, anorexia is not your solution. Your muscle will melt away like butter, and you can kiss it goodbye as far as I'm concerned, because you may never get it all back. I advise you not to tell anyone. People often overreact. Unless you want a trip to the mental hospital don't tell anyone unless you ARE anorexic, and you need help. If you tell anyone anything, don't just say "I think I'm anorexic." Say, "I want to tone my body, will you help me or take me to a dietician to help me get the most of my working out." I hope I've helped you.

Girl, take a deep breath. Just the fact that you questioned your own behavior means you are in good shape. Regardless of whether or not you satisfy the clinical definition of anorexia it is obvious the way you are feeling about your body image is unhealthy. Some people are at risk for serious, serious anorexia because they exhibit sub clinical anorexia (what I would label that you have if labels ever helped anyone). It is obvious some stressors in your life are being converted into worries about your body image and food.
The main point- yes, by all means tell your best friend and older sister. I don't know them but I would start with your older sister. I am guessing you may feel more comfortable talking to them first than your Mom.
No matter how strong and smart you are for a 14 year old (again I am applauding your realization of a problem) no one can do this alone. Try to bring your exercise down a 10 or 20 minutes a day. I know it is hard to break routines but at least you will be burning less calories and your body will have less strain on it. Wanting to tone your stomach and calves can be achieved by this. However, you will not be healthy and look good unless you eat properly. There is simply no way around it. Please, tell someone you trust before you start losing more control by feeling you are gaining control. Best wishes and take care.

Your problem is a lack of self esteem. You shouled feel good about the person that you are. Don't try to make yourself into something that you are not. Anorexic people do not have nice looking bodies. Their bodies look old and morbid.
If you want to look good, just eat healthy foods, and exercise about 30 minutes per day. Try not to eat too much bread, pasta, rice, sodas, fatty meats, or sweets.
Plenty of vegetables and lean meat will do the trick. That way you will build muscle too.
Why don't you get your sister to join you? Be sure to at least tell her your plan.

you should definately turn to your mother for help!!!! Also try going to a shrink. I know it SOUNDS stupid, but he/she can really help. You are 14 !!!! Don´t ruin your body like most of us have already done by not eating and stupid diets and pills. When you love YOURSELF the way god made you, everyone else will love you too. I learned that lesson a little late. I´m 34 and have been taking diet pills since I can remember, now my kidneys won´t work if I stop taking them. FYI: If your kidneys don´t work, you die!!!! Does that sound like fun to u?
As for your big nose, just look at Tom Cruise, if he had a girly nose he would probably not be the huge star he is today, I know he could be your father but I can´t think of any actors in your age range.
BE SMART- LOVE YOURSELF
God made you the way you are for a reason, and he made you special just the way u are.

Well, you've got a tough prob there. Maybe you can do this on your own. Practice not worrying about your body image or weight. Like if you go shopping or whatever, eat a cheeseburger, eat whatever you want, and don't feel bad about yourself, hey if you lost 5 or 6 kilo then that cheeseburger or whatever you pick isn't going to hurt you a bit. Just work on that, when you get up in the morning, tell yourself that you are not going to worry that day about your body image. Hang in there and good luck!

what is the one things guys want? Girls. do all guys have the same tastes? No. You need to relax. It's that your so perfect you don't wanna screw that up. but change is gonna happen. I'm 25 and have always been thin. Recently I noticed varicose veins on my calfs. do you know that dieting and exercising unhealthily has caused this? i will go for days without eating. you are only hurting yourself by trying to be skinny. those girls that have healthy curves. those are the girls that got it going on!!!!!!!!
