Someone just asked this, and then -- very strangely! -- deleted his question! But it was a VALID question, and I've often seen it asked in other contexys than this forum. My answer to him would have been that -- even though I'm pretty biblically-literate, I've never seen a passage that condemns it. So it this point, I'm re-asking his question: Does anyone know if their IS such a passage? And if so, can you cite it?

To Paul Hxyz -- Yes, I agree that the passage you referred to (Onan's sin) has to do with disobedience to the procreation directive, and is probably not to be inferred as a condemnation of masturbation.

Here's an in depth look into what the Bible does and does not say about this subject.

There is, the passage would be in leviticus somewhere (in the law part) but if you want to live a normal life your better off not reading leviticus (that book of the bible says basically everything is a sin, it has a large section about women and periods which isn't very nice)

just my opinion.
if u masturbate, u have seual urges. how do u have these urges? maybe u let ure dirty thoughts roam wild upon seeing a pretty woman... maybe you o the TV and saw something, or maybe u went to the streets and you saw some huge posters hunging by the illegal store stall.... or more commonly u werer reading some magazines which openly discusses sexual acts and teaches you ways to get what u want....
there must be reasons that trigger one to masturbate...
and already writtten explicitely: see no evil hear no evil speak no evil... if you can refrain from these factors and dont allow them to enter your mind and keep a righteous thought,
would they have a chance to manifest into reality when u ejeculate?
So haven't the bible or other scriptures warn u to refrain from evil, in the first place?

Maybe - its the one in regards to Onan, and how he "spilled his seed" in order to not get his late brother's wife pregnant, a custom of the tribe at that time. It probably is more like that it means that he "pulled out" at the last minute because he didn't want to get her pregnant because he didn't want the responsibility of another child. For this he was stoned to death. The Bible is full of such "wonderful" stories you know - adultery, murder, genocide, incest... its "lovely"!

If The Holy Spirit convicts you that it's sin, then it's sin for you to do it.
In marriage, everything the man and woman do together is undefiled. What they do of a sexual nature outside of their marriage relationship will be judged by God. And God will have a record of what the Holy Spirit felt about it.

For Paul: I've never read the Bible so far but found this website: http://www.thebricktestament.com/the_law
I wonder how one can still apply the "Law" nowadays...

Christ himself said in Matthew 5:27-28
"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."
