"why is there no mention of uranus, neptune or pluto in the bible? "

For the same reason that there is no mention of kangaroos or wolverines in the Bible. It is God's Word to man that was first given to a people living in primitive times in the near east. God uses accomodating language to convey divine truths to finite human beings.

Genesis 1:16 And God made the two great lights--the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night--and the stars. 17 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

At the same time, He isn't shy about revealing truths to us that we can comprehend but have no way of discovering on our own. The book of Job is considered to be one of the oldest if not the oldest book in the Bible. It was written at a time when eastern religions were teaching that the earth rested on the back of a giant turtle and the Greeks had yet to come up with the idea that it rested on the shoulders of a giant named Atlas.

Job 26:7 He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing.

Because the Bible isn't meant to be a book of astronomy or a book of geology or of geography, but a book that contains truths relative to the meaning of life and to salvation, you silly monkey.

"The Bible tells you how to go to heaven, not how the heavens go." - Galileo Galilei

Kind of ironic, a Catholic quoting Galileo, huh? :-)
But he was right.
