I would always recommend you stick with white for the main fittings and furnishings, such as tiles and suites, as these things are expensive to replace when your tastes change.
The easiest way to bring colour into the room is with the accessories, thick luxurious towels, beautiful soaps and bath oils.
Blues and greens always work well in bathrooms but I think your idea of creams and beiges will warm the room more. Add caramel coloured towels and lots of natural wood accesories and the room will look stylish, warm and contemporary.

I have large white tiles in my small bathroom. I chose a matt finish and a colourful border with a few tiles that have the same pattern in the centre. You can pick out the colour in your flooring and in accesories in the bathroom. Go for it with the white, it has certainly made our bathroom look bigger and the little touches avoid the clinical feel without making it appear smaller. We tiled all around the bathroom but on reflection a little patch of a warm colour on the wall might have improved it a little.

Just remember what ever colour tiles you use, they will be there for a long while. Make sure you can live with them in the years to come. If you use white you can add colour with shower curtains, towels, and other accessories. I'm a beige person because it doesn't blind you as much as stark white and it will go with anything. Also I have always been told that the darker you go the smaller your room will seem.

My bathrooms small and ALL white - white tiles, white suite, white painted walls, white ceiling. sounds clinical BUT because of all the stuff in there like towels etc, and a dark blue blind, its actually a beautifully bright room. Our new house has a turquoise bathroom :D Very cool!xx

I love white tiles in a bathroom, it always seems to set off whatever the wall color is. I expecially love it if the wall color is highly contrasting to the white tile. Plus whites tiles will go with anything if you ever change your mind and want to go with different scheme.
Some bathroom colors that are really fresh are (Sherwin Williams colors):
Veiled Violet SW6268 (Light Grapey Purple)
Languid Blue SW6226 (Dusty Warm Blue)
Hearts of Palm SW6415 (Medium Grassy Green)
Versitile Gray SW6072 (Warm Medium Gray)

Watch out for colored tiles - they can 'date' the bath, and are not easily changed.
Paint the walls a turquoise with a white wash over it. Add a turquoise print shower curtain, and pick colors from it for rug, towel sets, bath accessories.

White walls and white tiles that´s too much. I would add either blue, green or mauve - with matching towels. You need to break the color.
