i have a laptop and i have formatted it by mistake and install windows 2000. previous os is also win2000. i have took backup of all the important file beside outlook.pst in local setting\microsoft \outlook so pls help me it very important mails. pls any body have a solution of recover the pst files

try google ing a search for file recovery software there are many diff types out there look for one more suited to ur poistion ie recovery after formatting

Installing anew the OS was a big mistake. Now, there is almost nothing to be done. There are some programs that can recover not overwritten sectors and even overwritten ones but they are very expensive and used mostly by forensic people. You should refrain from doing anything else with your computer and start looking for a real professional company for help. That would cost you quite a bit. You should think it over. Maybe you could get (part of) those addresses back (e.g. from a previous backup)

Pretty much... everything that you didn't back up is gone forever.
Its possible to recover from a format BEFORE you reinstall the operating system.
Once you start over-writing the old data by installing the new operating system (especially the file allocation table area of the hard drive...) reassembling the data is astronomically expensive and not guaranteed to get much back even if you pay for the attempt.

From experience, you are doom, as PST are normally stored with Doc/settings, a new install would write over that space normally.
You can try some data recovery softwrae, but like I said, chances are very very slim.

The best service is Ontrack. Goto ontrack.com
They are not free or cheap, but they can recovery files from a formatted hard drive. They did for me when i accidentally formatted my bosses hard drive!

There is no way to recover the files.
No recoverer a do it because when you reformat the drive, it completely deletes everything.
