Acrylic is not appropriate for initial piericngs, but you can get pierced with quartz or glass. (you can not auto-clave plastic and you need sterile jewelry, also acrylic is not appropriate for long term wear, it's porous, harbours bacteria and starts to break down with time). Quartz or glass will do the same thing as the plastic retainer, and can be run through the auto-clave. Make sure you call ahead to your piercer so they can have the appropriate jewelry in stock for you.

Unfortunatly not as again they not sharp enough to perfirate the ear !!!! however you can buy clear retainers from body piercing shops(often called labret studs which have a ball on the end and a small rubber band to hold it in place) and the earings can be changed about 2days after being pierced (well so my local piercist told me), depending where the piercing is in the ear!.
try this website to search for clear earings
http://www.bodyjewelleryshop.com/online_store/labret_retainers_4031437.cfm
i know it says for lip piercings however i found this item by going through the system of clicking the ear image etc
***just remember to keep the ear piercings clean, also if the piercings are any where other than the lobe (which ends about 4 piecings up) then dont take the gold earings out for about 8 months sorry :(
hope this helps...............

Well when I got my ears pierced for the first time they used to put a little piece of straw in the pierced area until it healed. I know now that they use ear studs when they apply it to the gun. But the piece of ear piercing straw was very help to me because it was unnoticable and easier to clean. My jobs never found them in appropriate. Usually now people just cover them with bandaids or cotton tape to cover the piercings. It very rare you can find clear ear studs.

for most piercings, you can get plastic retainers, but these are best in fully healed piercings. you can also get acrylic/glass jewellery that can be used in some piercings - i'd check with your piercer. your best bet would be to get your ears pierced at the beginning of the summer holidays, then they should be healed enough to swap retainers in for when you return to school. (for the record - try and get your ears pierced with a needle, not a gun - it's much better and should improve healing times as it reduces the trauma)

acrylic is not suitable for fresh piercings. however, some piercers will use a clear glass retainer if you request it. find a reputable piercing studio in your area and ask about your options.

I don't know that plastic earrings would have sharp enough points to go through easily.
Even if it was possible, I don't think it'd be advisable, hygenically.
