Pay... they all pay the same! If you are an E2 in the AF, you're an E2 in the Army, Navy, and Marines, and all E2's get the same pay.

Extra stripes upon enlisting... college credits. Don't know the details, just know that it does help!

Laptop... no laptops in basic training. And you wouldn't have time anyway. After that... in your after duty hours, paying for your own internet. At work... way too many blocks, firewalls, etc. to get near a gaming site and you don't have time. Also, you cannot hook your own laptop up to gov't internet. Big no no!!
Most folks I know do have their own laptops, and do tend to take them on deployments and TDYs. They then pay for internet access for their own computer. However, most will admit to using it pretty much for emailing, as they don't have time to get on it like they did at home.

For most the rank thing depends on how long you enlist for. If you enlist for 4 years don't expect much because the military knows full well that you have no intention of staying in. If you enlist for 6 years, you want to make sure that it is spelled out in your contract. I believe my daughter went from E-1 to E-3 at 22 weeks, which was while she was still in tech school. How fast rank comes after that is completely up to you, and you ARE competing against everyone else with the same MOS/AFC. Keep your nose clean and work hard you can go "below the zone" (6 months early) for E-4, E-5 and above comes pretty much off a test answer sheet. E-6 is the hardest to get (the career make it or brake it rank)

Go to college for ROTC, NROTC or which ever...youll graduate as an Officer (perhaps E-2 rank?). If you want hands on with weapons, and die hard go Marines. They live and breathe corp. Still gung ho but want flexibility in the schedule then go Army? Either way youll face deployment, if thats ok with you. PS....if you REALLLYYY want to snipe somone--try Army Rangers ;)

Decode this lyrics 'Do what you do, do well"
Find out which attracts you to it.
Not in just doing it for the money.
But in enjoying what you like to do for the good of mankind.
