Well I've been on a diet and have been excersizing for the past 2 1/2 months, lost 40 lbs so far... but throughout this whole process I've had many of the symptoms that one has when they are depressed... I would say that I was mildly depressed before I started my lifestyle change, but now... it seems that it's gotten a LOT worse. I shut everyone out of my life, I can't sleep, I am very hot-tempered, I could go on and on. I don't know what's wrong, what should I do?

I would have thought that this lifestyle change would make me feel even better... hell 40 lbs lighter would make any overweight person happy, but even though I'm seeing positive results, I just don't care much for it.

Any drastic change in life - positive or negative - can trigger a depressive episode. Talk to your doctor or a therapist about your symptoms and maybe discuss some treatment options, if you together decide it is necessary.

You clearly stated that you were mildly depressed before you went on a diet, exercise and lost forty pounds in 2 ½ months. You are feeling increasingly depressed since this lifestyle change. People enjoy eating and some people eat to feel good. You are not getting that pleasure that you were before going on the diet. I hope that you get enough of everything that our body needs while you are on diet. It is possible that before going on the diet you were treating your depression by overeating. I strongly recommend that you go and talk to the doctor about all this. The doctor will then send you to a mental health specialist. If you have such a plan that allows you to go to whoever you desire then go to see a psychiatrist who can diagnose your problem and then treatment. Good luck.

Lifestyle changes can be one of the causes of depression, but usually it's negative lifestyle changes. Depression is mainly caused by a chemical imbalance. If your serotonin levels are low, you will have symptoms of depression. I would recommend that you go see a doctor. A Psychiatrist can give you the proper diagnosis, and medication if needed. A Psychologist is there to help you with therapy. Continue with the exercise program because it helps to reduce stress.

I'd say you may be starving yourself a little, eat some food! Changes in diet can definitely effect your mood. You may not be getting enough vitamins. If you're not already taking vitamin supplements, I suggest you get some. Get a daily multi-vitamin plus a bottle of B-vitamins 100mg and take the B-vitamins 2 or 3 times a day. Many people don't get enough B-vitamins and if you're on a diet to lose weight you may be getting even less.

You were using food to make you feel better emotionally, and that avenue is now largely closed to you, so find other things. See depression, anger, and insomnia, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on pages 2, 3, & 4. On one day/week, allow yourself some of your favorite foods, and eat a balanced diet. 6 - 8 small meals daily, each with a little protein, preceded 20 mins earlier by a large glass of water. Snack on any amount of celery sticks, with the occasional carrot stick, or slices of cucumber in any vinegar.

some people are afraid of failing some are afraid of success because of what that will mean. Sometimes people fear the loss of a protection/ excuse not to do something. Talk with people close to you and stay in contact with parents and friends daily even if you don't want to, sometimes friends and family can fix problems you didn't know where there.

any sort of depression can be tide over by faith in GOD and sincere prayer.
Your prayer is from your heart. Further You must have to understood the fact that God is present in our heart. This can be realised in meditation. Further we are the creation of our own destiny. As per Hindu sacred religion, we carry all good and bad deeds life after life. There is no end unless we pray for unification of self with the divineliness.
Hence there is always a possible way to complete mergence with God in this life by a simple and wonderful meditation
