Well, some of these people offer a rational consideration of various religions and explain why they think they are wrong. They are offering their opinion which you can accept or reject.
Many of them do this because they think that people who believe in religion are being deceived, albeit by sincere people who are genuinely mistaken, or sometimes even lied to.
They are trying to help you to have a better understanding of life, the universe and everything. Please note though: not all claim to have all the answers.

Anna.

"I've heard it said that if you scratch the surface of an atheist, you often find anger and resentment over some past experience, more than cogent reasons for their non belief. Some of the books of this type I've read are exercises in catharsis or "payback"--they are busy shocking the vicar, their parents, or someone else in their head."

This may be true of some writers, I don't know. But I think that many people called atheist do not actively hold reasons not to believe, but rather they lack a reason to believe.

You wouldn't expect me to have a cogent reason NOT to believe in pixies, goblins, trolls or the man in the moon, would you?

I definitely have something better to offer: Peace, Joy, Compassion, Love, Forgiveness (of self and others), Healing (of traumas, fears etc as well as some physical illness in my own experience), Kindness, Faithfulness, Self-control, Freedom from one's past, fears, and phobias....I could go on and on.
Of course *I* can't give you these things myself, and I don't claim to, but they are available free for the asking from Jesus Christ.

All religion is false only faith in our Lord Jesus who died on the cross for all mankind, is the true and only way. To have Jesus as a personal saviour and friend is a wonderful thing. Unless you have this then it is diificult to understand what it is like. I can only say ask Jesus into your life personally.

They have to offer the truth unlike the hot air that religionists seem to spout all the time.

Really I think they'd have better things to do with their time than to try and push their god agenda wherever they went.

oh yes thats right! Because it is written in a book!

Can you see the hypocrisy within your statement? Probably not because religion tries to ignore blatant hypocrisy

Something better than religion? How about 'not religion'? It's like 'not poison' is better than poison.
