It's not your computer that makesit read only, the doc was saved that way or has ownership properties. I would try to click properties on the doc and try to remove the check in read only. You might be able to copy into rich text, edit, then save as word.

Nope. Do File/Save As and save file to a directory on your computer. (Reason documents on CD's are read-only is because CD's are not appendable from Word and most CD's used for data storage are not re-writable.)
