well....

if the condition was severe enough to warrant medications that would have to be taken to keep you on an even keel...yes.

there's nothing wrong with being bipolar. its just that the military has a hard time handing a rifle to such a person during one of the persons severe up or down swings.

it used to be that there wasn't anyway to diagnose such problems. now, when they find people in the military like this..when its severe they usually discharge them.

As far as enlisting. What you don't tell them they don't know about. They do not pull up and search for all of your past medical records. If you do not tell them you have it then they won't know. Many recruiters I have worked with tell this to their pullees. The simplest things such as a consussion can disqualify you. You however can not be on any medication when you enlist. The only medication, I believe, they allow you to be on is for tuberculosis or some thing like that. ADD may disqualify you. If you are medicated currently, I would suggest getting weaned off of the meds and then waiting 4 months. This gives you enough time to make sure that you have control over yourself. I work with boys that are diagnosed bi-polar and are not medicated. It will be up to the doctor doing your physical to decide if he will allow you to pass or not. And different doctors have different perspectives. He/she may say that you have not been off the meds long enough. If so, wait a little bit and return. It never hurts to try. PLEASE if you do not have a handle on your disorders do not do it. You will end up hurting yourself and/or others if you do have any kind of episodes.

Due to suffering with bipolar you will more than likely not be able to join the military. This is due to you having to go to combat situations that will make your condition worse. People go on deployment and come back a whole different person. I would imagine you are on some sort of medication and the military will not enlist you!!

Yes, the stress of some one being in your face at boot camp alone would be very distressful. If you are by-polar or ADD they won't let you join. Any type of disorders are a reject from service.
