Way too many times. Two friends I grew up with killed in accidents in high school (1976 and 1977). My father died suddenly six months after I moved here to be close to my family in 1989. My step-father died of cancer after a long battle in 2000. My mother died after a long illness in 2004. My kind of nephew who was almost like a son to me committed suicide last summer (that was really hard).

That's the "short" list.

I really hope to avoid more...but then it is part of life and since my step-son is Afghanistan with the Army I half expect the "knock on the door" any day.

I cry and then give my pain to God. I also thank God I am not in Iraq where virtually everybody has lost someone close to them in the worst possible way for the dumbest of reasons...OIL.

My heart goes out to her. I lost my mother, father, two brothers, an uncle, and my stepfather. I know what loss is like.
