St. Paul in the bible stated this things in the book of Galatians 4:26:

"But the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is our mother."

Of course St. Paul is not speaking of the physical Jerusalem located in Israel, but speaking of a mystery (if you gonna continue with the verse). We must also know how St. Paul speak and write as testified by Peter in II Peter 3:16:

"as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; wherein are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unstedfast wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. "

Your question is actually very intelligent and biblical, that is why I'm inviting you over to visit http://esoriano.wordpress.com and ask the same question that you posted here. I'm definitely sure that you will have the best response to your question based from the bible no more, no less.

It says somewhere in the bible that when our father and mother forsake us then the Lord will take care of us, so He is both. Book of Isaiah I think.

God does not actually have a gender. He is the CREATOR. We use the male gender specific because of how the Jewish faith thought of God in the male sense. But in reality, God, does not have a gender.
