I study. I gain from that. I try to read opposing views and then formulate my opinion on what I learn. I am not what people would call a typical Christian. Almost anything is up for interpretation, especially if a particular person has Saint, St. , Father, Bishop, Pastor, or other liturgical heading in front of their name. I have learned that many of them have something going on that I don't agree with, and neither does scripture.

I like to be right, and I think that everybody does. But I haven't been raised traditionally, so I find it rather easy to refute tradition and abandon it when the time comes. I realize that this is not 'with the group' , but I like it that way.

If I listen to anyone else and accept what they have to say when I know that what they say makes no sense, then I would know I was lying to myself.

Oh!You mean if you're any good at lying to yourself.Ok.Then this question was meant for believers.

Ive never been a very good liar...I tend to refuse eye contact, twist my hands together alot, and stutter over details(so my mother told me) I guess if I did these things to while talking to myself then I would know Im lying....then again if Im talking to myself then I have more problems to worry about then whether or not Im lying at the same time....lol.

Every single person lies to themselves at some stage of their lives ( I can hear everyone saying "I don't")..eg..you see someone fall over and you help them up, they always say "I'm ok" when really they're hurting..How do we stop it..Why stop it..Unless you are hurting someone by it..Usually the person you hurt is yourself..Also sometimes our conscious self lies to our subconscious..Again eg..I forgive you for doing this or that but deep down we still hold resentment, as much as we want to forgive...I don't see a quick fix to the problem, just try and listen to yourself more..

But MOST aren't that good at "lying." Body language always gives people away, despite the fact they think they are very good at it, it is WE who are confronted by these kind that have to learn how to see right through them. Many are not "trained" to do so, and are deceived. I have never found a person I could not READ through who lied. One of these was an ex wife who was unfaithful. She covered her tracks real good YET could never understand how I "knew" when she stepped out on me. Mentally it began to affect her so much she took off and haven't seen her since.Know how I knew she was being unfaithful? Body language. Her "pattern" of behaviors were always "different" when she "lied" and so are the patterns of everyone else who sets out to deceive others. Try to TRAIN yourself and see for yourself that LIARS give themselves away by changes in BEHAVIOR.......If I lie to myself, I generally CORRECT the delusion to feel "superior" which is really at the root of lying to one's self. Humility is not a trait many have to keep themselves in line and goes in line with your question as to why people can't see "through" themselves and their own deceptions upon themselves.

in general, i think we all lie to ourselves to some degree at some time.

i agree with copper. if you have asked God to help you be honest, He will help you and He can get you past yourself.

also, some things take time.... it's in the process of life that we discover things once covered. it's pretty kool actually, to find more and more truth and bring out more and more untruth to the light.

but it will take a lifetime . and then some, to really have all the truth about yourself.

I don't anymore-the indwelling Holy Spirit convicts me and I run to the Lord and confess it and repent when it does happen. I know myself so well it is scary=used to focus on thmy faults but was reminded God loves me unconditionally and I try and stay in fellowship with Him.

True...
but then the bank statement comes, and I am revealed to myself.
You'd think I'd quit trusting me, at least in financial matters, wouldn't you?

Going on an acid trip generally helps you sort out things like that.
