I have extreme hypochondria, I am a virgin waiting for marriage but I am extremely terrified of HIV and having it. I am scared that my darkened skin is due to jaundice which can be a symptom of HIV. However, a few weeks ago, I was burned pretty badly in the tanning bed....does this have something to do with things? Although I am a virgin, I get so scared so I have been tested for HIV 3 times within the last year and everyone of them came back negative, I am not an IV drug user, I am a virgin and my parents are completely healthy. Should I worry about my darkened skin being jaundice or is it just from whenever I was burned from the tanning bed?

No, jaundice would look yellow. You have a tan from the tanning bed. It will go away if you stay out of the sun, unless the tanning bed gave you freckles. You're not going to get HIV unless you have sex or come in contact with someone's blood. If you're worried about your health, stay away from tanning beds: you can get cancer and you can burn your corneas, too.

The fact that you know you're a hypochondriac means its just anxiety. The test results are negative you said and you're not a drug user nor a whore, so why worry?? Its not jaundice, maybe its just from tanning. Check your eyes, palate, and skin color if they turn yellow, that's jaundice.

If you're a hypochrondriac, what are you doing in a tanning bed??
More than likely, you're not jaundiced. You're skin would take on a 'yellow' color. Not really darker. Check the whites of you're eyes for any yellowing and for goodness sakes, stay out of the tanning beds!!

Chill out man. HIV is not some arbitrary infection. You have to be leading a pretty risky lifestyle to get infected. Right now, all you seem to be putting yourself at risk for is an early death from stress. Just kick back and relax in the knowledge that you are completely safe and healthy. Besides, HIV presents with flu-like symptoms in the early stages before entering the provirus cycle. So, if you shoot heroin with your dealer, have sex with a crackwhore, then come down with the flu for six months, be concerned. Otherwise, you're probably safe.

Its probably the tanning bed. From what you've said there's not really anyway to get HIV from what you've done. If i recall having jaundice also makes your eyes yellow too so check your eyes i guess. Just my .02

First off no I don't think you have jaundice. Jaundice turns your skin yellow because the liver is not functioning properly. Good luck to you.

Your melanin could be responding to the damage from the sun burn you recieved, it is entirely possible, it also could be your hormones. Check for yellow eyes, if you have yellow eyes be concerned, if your skin is darkening, I would just sit tight.

HOWEVER, I would tell my parents about the irrational fears you are experiencing and how that is effecting your life and request some behavioral therapy, it sounds like you need it.

Jaundice is a yellowing of the skin, ears, and cornea of the eye. Please don't worry.
