I was a truck driver for a tire recycling company who hired me in 2005. The job required for me to have a helper who rode alongside me and helped pick up scrap tires. The person who worked with me was suggested by the company because of the previous work he had done for them. I was contacted in April 2007 and asked what I knew about using a U-Haul truck to illegaly dump tires I informed the supervisor I no knowledge of what he was talking about, but he insisted I knew something and would come see me the following business day which was Monday. I was uneasy about the situtation so I put a voice recorder in my pocket to attend his meeting, sure enough 23Apr2007 I was suspended for a week and accused of illegal dumping. He even told me of complaints from customers so I contacted the people and was informed this was not true. The guy who worked alongside me I believe was dumping illegally without my knowledge. I received a letter termination letter 9 days later, the letter was dated 24 Apr

I would contact an attorney to see what my legal options are. The recording could come in handy in recalling information, but it would be inadmissible in court. Find out what your rights are. Good luck.

If what you say is true, I believe that you were illegally terminated because your supervisor was misled or lied to by someone. You could go to Social Security and have a hearing to challenge the decision. It normally is only an arbitrator, you and your supervisor to determine if it was right or wrong. The only thing that is not in your favor is that you recorded a conversation between you and your supervisor without his knowledge. That is against the law. I wish you some success but don't let too much time go by.

Post this question under legal/law enforcement, there are a bunch of people there with legal expertise who can help you. One thing I know is you have to find out if a recording of someone without their knowledge is still legally admissible in court. I know it is not in many states and that might be a glitch in your plan. Other than that, get proper legal advice and see what your course of action should be.

At the very least, it sounds like you were unfairly terminated. However, most employees are hired "at will" which means that the boss can fire you because of just about any reason he/she wants. Are you sure you want to work for a company that handles it's business this way? You could try talking to them and getting at least a nuetral reference and then just getting another job-preferably for their competitor with more money and benefits.

Contact an attorney, and let him determine whether you have a suit. That voice recorder thing may not be admissible in court, but there may be something else you can do.
