A cafe latte and a cappuccino are coffee beverages made from espresso and milk. The difference is that cafe late takes about a half an inch to an inch of foam/froth while the cappuccino takes a half cup of foam/froth. The key to making good foam is keeping the steam/heat wand 1/4 inch below the surface of the milk and as the milk rises the steam pitcher is pulled down. When the temperature of the milk gets to 120 degrees the steam wand can be submerged all the way into the pitcher. Steam the milk to approximately 160 degrees. There should be a lot of foam. The longer the foam sits the better the quality.

A latte, a real one, has steamed milk and expresso. The milk is put in first and the expresso is SLOWLY added to it is "layed" in the cup. I assume you know what normal coffee is, weaker and different than expresso beans, nothing added until you add it.
Foam would indicate a cappuccino.
