A big catfish eats them with the fins , I never cut mine off but like Eric said try it with one .

As far as legalities of fishing with bluegill , check your regulations , in most states they are legal for bait if they are not caught in a castnet, Here in Fl they are legal to use but you have to catch them on hook and line

I don't know where your from Pal but, the few States I've lived in the Bluegill is a Sunfish and a game fish, therefore not considered bait fish and against the law to use as bait fish. And, in fact, Bluegills are the best eating you could get

Using these as bait in Michigan, Minnesota and Nevada could bring you time in jail.

I know some fishermen that just trim the sharp points off of pin fish a similar saltwater panfish before baiting them up. Me personally I run em like I brung em, all natural.

really I wouldent, but try to hook it really good because sometimes if you hook the blugill a bass might eat it too. but the blugill will eventually get tired and a catfish will eat it. I know because I have tried this method.

Good fishing!
