I have a 2006 Sonata GLS V6. Excellent handling and power. Transmission is tuned for smoothness rather than super-brisk shifting. 34 miles per gallon on highway (with a HUGE car!!!), but only about 18-20 miles per gallon in the city with medium traffic intensity.

I joke that this would be the ultimate car for a travelling salesman, but I guess that would make it good for anyone going on road trips all the time. Everything is lined with upholstery, unlike in Camry and Accord. The glove box has dampening so it feels quality and is lined. The trunk is fully-lined, but is not lined on Honda Accord. Go look at one and notice the light inside the glovebox and really look at how it's put together and then you'll know how fanatical these guys must have been. Rear armrest is good too. Back seat to die for, and the car seems like a luxury car if you're riding in the back seat -- the same can't be said for Camry or Accord. And while the Camry and Accord have better recognition, it's nice to have a sleeper. The Sonata V6 is faster than the BMW 530i, yet cost $20,000+ less.

I'd probably get the I4 though this time around for gas mileage's sake. I'd rather get 24-26 consistently than 20-22 and have more power...but that's me.

THE ONLY THING I HATE ABOUT THIS CAR IS THAT YOU CANNOT PLUG YOUR IPOD INTO THE STEREO AND IT IS REALLY HARD TO CHANGE THE DECK OUT. The car does come with XM satellite radio standard though.

ALSO, don't forget - all the safety stuff is FREE on the Hyundai. The same can't be said for everyone in the segment, nor for the 100,000 mile warranty.

Don't forget that Hyundai has #2 owner return rate second only to Mercedes-Benz. I am in a business dealing with a lot of rich people, and the frugal ones snatch up Sonatas and Hyundais in general like it is their dirty little secret. lol, if you get one you'll know what I mean. Once you own one you're convinced it is not even comparable to Honda Accord or Toyota Camry, this is a car to be compared with cars that don't exist. Why? There really isn't another pseudo-luxury-economy/value-sporty car on the market, period.

I have owned a Sonata GLS with the V-6 since 2002. Great car. Wife and I have been all over the country in it and haven't had to do a thing to it except replace tires and change the oil.
I keep it serviced regularly with new oil, filters, etc. Seems to help maintain any car, and it sure has this one. We paid $13,900. in Sept. 2002 for the car. I think today the price of $15,100. is fair. Do go for the V-6 option though. You didn't say if that was what the price was for but I would recommend it highly. Good luck.

While I'm still concerned about Hyundai- I haven't been able to get the courage to buy one myself. Their cars of yesterday were crapboxes, but that's when they were running Mitsubishi engines and trannies (ie. Excel, Gen1 Elantras and Sonatas, Scoupe). Now they make their own stuff and I've been told that they are great. In fact, I know a lot of Hyundai repeat buyers that swear by them. The Sonata is a hot looking car. I rode in one a couple of months ago and was I impressed. Rode more like an Accord than a Camry but it felt solid nonetheless. You should buy it. Everyone is concerned with the lower resale value on these cars but as long as you get your moneys worth out of it, who cares? I can honestly say that the Sonata is worth more than Hyundai's asking.

I have a Hyundai and it's been a great car for me. They have improved in quality a lot over the years. The dealer may be telling you to hurry because I believe the price reflects a $2000 cash back bonus. No telling what Hyundai will offer month after month with cash bonuses so you may want to go for it while the offer is still good.

I used to work for a company that provided roadside service to broken down motorist (all makes and models) and in this country, Australia, Hyundai's are fairly popular, relatively cheap to buy, and considering there budget price etc astonishingly reliable and hassle free. The most reliable and hassle free cars, IMHO are Japanese cars (best quality, Toyota best value for money) next best, Asian sourced especially if based on a Japanese design, then the rest. Worst are European cars, I swear, after five years of dealing with crappy BMW,s, Audi's, Merc's etc I would rather walk from Melbourne to Perth and back than drive a euro trash box. (It would be faster to walk and less expensive as well) I would probably advise against getting a V6 due to fuel prices rising but to me Hyundai's are a good choice.

Quite simply the best value on the road today in a midsized car. Far more standard equipment. Side impact and side head curtain air bags, electronic stability control, power locks, windows, heated mirrors.

10/100000 power train warranty
5/60,000 bumper to bumper

Hyundai simply cannot be beaten for the price or the content. There are quite a few in family -- highly recommended

If you need a car right away than go for it but if you dont I would wait with summer deals coming im sure there will be better offers cause they need to clear the line to make way for the new models

Do some more research.
Tomorrow only 15,100, is a high pressure tactic often used by salespersons....although there are sometimes legit factory
incentives that end.
