Build what I call an open trap. Wire about 10-12 cattle or hog panels together overlapping them about one foot end to end. If you want to catch little ones and all, use hog panels because they have smaller spacings between the wires at the bottom of the panel. Place them in a tear or bottle shape and drive t-posts at every splice. Wire the panels to the t-posts. Make the neck about three foot wide at the opening. Cut a piece of panel about 5 foot long and place it at an inward angle about a foot from the start of the opening. Place three clevises or caribeeners from top to bottom on the closest edge of the panel. Place a screen door spring or bungee cord from the farthest edge back to the opening. ( l/l ) It looks something like this from the top. Place an automatic corn feeder on a tall t-post in the center of the trap. place a gravity fed corn feeder outside of the trap. When the hogs empty the outside feeder they will brave the trap for more corn. Hogs become trap smart and an open top trap is what I had to go to after the hogs in our area became trap smart. It has been working for me so far.

What type of trap are you using? Where the pig walks in and steps on a 'trigger' that releases the drop gate? Is the pin holding the gate open inserted too far in? It should just barely hold the gate up. What are you baiting your trap with? Try Hog Wild available from Academy or many feed stores. Or try an overripe watermelon.

Another type of door to try for your hog trap is where the door swings open (like a house door) and it is held closed by a screen door spring. The hog can easily push the door open and get in, but it is a one-way door and he can't get out.

Good luck.

Pig trap, I am assuming that we are talking about the heavy wire cage about 6ft wide and 8 ft deep and 30 to 36 inches tall. with a drop door on one end. If this is the trap that you are using you need to do a few things to it. Before you take it to go set it make sure that there is no blood on it. Some guys shoot the pig in the trap. even a trace and the pigs will stay away from it. the next thing that you should do is dig it in, by that I mean try to cover the bottom of the trap with soil leaves what ever but hide the bottom of the trap from the pig. You should stay away from the trap. if you want to check on the trap check but do it from a distance with field glasses. I think that you will see a turn around in your getting them.

Dig a pit and put food in it; be sure not to fall in with the boar.
