Tish, you spoke French!

There should be no violation notices. If you are on an open forum you should be man or women enough to take your lumps and get up back swinging!

Because you don't. Although it's a good idea, people will continue to CHOOSE to be offended by what others say. Instead of understanding that people have a right to their opinions, regardless of how popular or irritating they may be to someone; and tolerating these differences, they seek to control what others do, think and say as well as how they live and what they can and can't do. But they are usually the first to get upset when the freedoms they expect for themselves are "violated" in some way.

You need to monitor what you say, like a big mouth gets one into trouble. Some things folks say are offensive. Just look at lost Don Imus; what a loser he turned out to be. Lost it all in a week with his fat mouth.

I am wondering how old you are to even have to ask this question. Adults should know what is and what is not appropriate to say or write in public. How old are you?

Yahoo! Answer Forums is a public place of accommodation therefore they are subject to legal action should they allow bigotry and hate, discrimination and offensive outrageousness to plague their site. Haven't you noticed that they do quite often? We know what kind of "folk" is running this forum site. Just do a search on "Blacks".

Say hello to Ginger.

Yahooanswers is a private company offering their services to the public free of charge. However, that does not shield them from civil litigation for violations of free speech. After all, many in here will tell you to like it or not, but on the flip side is that if yahooanswers doesn't like certain things that get said in here, they need to remember that no one has forced them to "incorporate" under the tax laws of the state they reside in or offer these services. They are a corporate entity with a tax ID number, and they can very much be sued for censorship violations.

You have the right to say almost anything (there are limitations, such as threats and acts of incitement), but there is always the possibility of negative reaction. Freedom is not absolute; it comes with a price.

You have the right to say what you like in public, unless it is likely to cause 'imminent lawless action' where imminent means before a police officer can reasonably be summoned, and lawless action basically means a riot.

Yahoo! Answers isn't a public place. They have the right to censor their own website however they like, which you agreed to when you ticked that little box next to the terms of service. But you're welcome to create your own website and say whatever you like.

Freedom of speach is one thing but insults and offensive language quite another.

Well, it's like this. It's a world-wide website that isn't limited to America and our freedom of speech.

But for the record, I agree with you whole-heartedly. I don't report people. Period. Even the Christian who didn't like one of my remarks and sent me an email by way of my profile threatening my wife's life if I didn't repent and publicly appologise for my sinful Atheist views. I didn't report him, because that's giving his threat more creedance than it deserves. He doesn't know me, nor I him. I just removed the information I had on my profile regarding my family and moved on.

There was a qoute I've heard, and I wish I knew who to credit for it. "I do not agree with what you say, but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it." Too bad we don't see more of that.

Not when it comes to a private entity such as Yahoo...they can make whatever rule they want concerning your speech...if you don't follow the rules...you face the wrath of the Yamster.....
