Which is a better camera Canon Rebel XTI or Nikon D40?

Both are excellent cameras & both companies make excellent lenses, but the D40 is both newer and less expensive. If you're looking for more intermediate to advanced features then between those two models, maybe the XTI- but for most types of shooting the D40 has it beat.

Now if you're talking a Nikon D80, that's much better than the Rebel XTI.

Obviously if you have any lenses from either manufacturer, that's the way to go when looking at camera bodies. Nobody wants to spend extra $$$ buying lenses all over again.
