I don't have a bench to do some bench presses. Can this be done on the floor?

sure, you can. however, the floor will limit your range of motion which, in turn, limits the weight you can move, so you may not get the maximum benefit that a bench offers. that being said, presses on the floor may help you get over your bench press plateau since you work on the upper part of the movement which is usually the moves sticking point.

Yes it can be done and is actually beneficial to your bench press, although it will only strengthen certain aspects of this movement. You need a full range of motion to gain full appreciation of this exercise and its benefits.

Stack a couple pillows under your back and head so your arms can drop a little further down. Or buy an exercise ball and balance your back on it. They are much cheaper than a bench.

I think the bench is for safety, so if the weights are lowered and you can't raise them straight up you can lift one side and tip it onto the floor. If you have a very reliable spotter who you trust immensely I suppose you could risk it, but I wouldn't do it! :)

Yes ... they are called "push-ups".
