This question spans the religious spectrum for all faiths that believe in after life and consequences for bad deeds in said afterlife.

If you were raised in a society to believe that one specific thing was okay or a set of moral codes was correct and then later in life discovered that it was not, how would you handle this.

The best possible illistration I can come up with is cannibalism, in *some* societies this is deemed acceptable and sometimes even sacrificial while in other societies this is deemed unacceptable and wrong.

I think that if this type of thing happened to me, it would challenge everything I'd ever thought was true. I think it would turn my whole world upside down and I would have to start from scratch again.

How is one to choose the right path when they are faced with two equally strong and equally supported yet opposing sides?
Thoughts?

The way I see it, there are three possibilities.

Some people hold fast to the system of ethics that was instilled in them as youths. When challenged by an opposing ethic, these people reject the unknown and cling to that which they have known all their lives to be true.

Others do not allow themselves to be beholden to a particular ethic. On the contrary, the "right path" is the path of least resistance - or in some cases, the choice that will result in the most personally pleasing outcome. Theirs is an ethic of the ego, or perhaps one could call it Machiavellian.

Still others digest the unfamiliar and synthesize it with what they know to create a new dialectic all their own. Reason - thinking and deciding for oneself what is the "right path" - is the modus operandi for this group.

I hope I have not characterized any of these ethical systems as being superior or inferior to the others. Are any of these ethical systems better than the others? That is a philosophical question that each person may answer differently.

a number of it somewhat is already taking part in out. we are right here having those debates and arguments especially because of the fact of "smart layout" There regarded to be a gentleman's settlement of types that neither messed with the different's pond for a protracted time, however the technology pond maintains to get larger as we get extra to put in it. smart layout exchange into an attempt to place blatant theism into the technology mag and its been taken as an attack on Human reason. The inclusion of Creationism in some US technology lecture rooms is only throwing down the gauntlet. There had to be a reaction. If identity has stayed decrease than a rock, or in a Christian bookstall the place it belonged, I doubt this skirmish could have kicked off and we could get alongside lots extra powerful. Atheism is liberal (no longer which you will think of it right here) and has no purpose to forcibly take absolutely everyone's faith away. The desire is that numbers of adherents of Christianity will proceed to bleed away each and every 365 days to any extent further. Time will do the paintings. i do no longer comprehend the way it is going to play out. technology will proceed to progression, yet I doubt faith will ever completely pass away. some will consistently locate convenience contained in the supernatural.

"The key to finding the good path"
Will the answers to the following four questions be given on the path that you choose!
1. Where did I come from ?
2. What is this place that I have been born into ?
3. Who am I ?
4. Where am I going ?

If these four questions can be answered while on the path that you choose, it is the correct path.

While on this path you must use these tools:
Tolerance, Compassion, Understanding, Forgiveness, Modesty & Charity.

While on this path you will receive:
Peacefullness, Patience, Knowledge & Wisdom.

Always remember this: "The Truth is free, its lies that cost money."

Be Sincere, Honest, Hardworking & Persistent.
And above all let your heart guide you!!

Beliefs are just that, beliefs. You choose what you believe, about anything and everything. Everything is relative, what is right for you may be wrong to someone else, same with any pair you care to name (good/bad, etc).

From this you get, the "right path" for who? You? Only you can decide what that is for yourself. If you choose to believe your path lies with the tenets of a particular religion or sect, for whatever reason, then that IS the "right path" for you. If you choose to think for yourself and create your own belief system, then that is "right" for you. There is nothing to say you have to think one thing, believe another, act this way or that, etc. The only thing that limits your choices are your own thoughts, you create the limits and live within them.

My belief system of non-belief is working for me just fine. I'm constantly challenged to learn new things, not rely on the same old BS. I'm constantly challenged to do what is right without reward, but that's fine with me.

I wish more would follow my non-belief system... I think the world would be better off.

It's the Hokey Pokey question all over again, We put parts of ourselves into the equation at some times, other parts at other times, and then we do 'the Hokey Pokey' (and no I'm not aiming for any inuendo there so get your minds above the waistline! :-P) and get turned around by events.
