I have been talking to a girl online for about a month now. I really do love her. However, today I asked my mom if it was ok to talk to someone and to call her on my cellphone. She was perfectly ok with it. Well, my dad tried to look on my macbook today, and i freaked and shut up. I then accidently kneed him in the lip. My mom told him about this girl because he wanted to know why i didnt want him to see the computer. Now he wants to talk about "internet chatting" and im really scared that he will take my computer away and i wont be able to talk to her anymore. Im 18 and I have never done anything wrong before. This has not affected my grades, and Im graduating 4th in my class. any help?

Geniuses made good grades without computers.He can take you to the library if he has to. You are 16 not 18 and WE both know what 16 yr old boys think about and talk about when the parents aint around.You obviously said some things that were sexually orientd or else you wouldnt have freaked when your dad wanted to see your computer.Your dad is no fool.He doesnt want a grandkid until youve graduated got a job a place of your own a car of your own and married.

He's just trying to protect you. With all the danger going around about chatting, he just might be protecting you. Or maybe he's concerned that your grades might drop, or that you might fall into the wrong group. I don't know.
The first thing you need to find out is "why" he's not letting you chat. Get a reason. Not a "just because I said". Tell him this. It's better to chat on the computer rather than talking on the cell phone wasting minutes. Or talking on the phone wasting money. Or better yet, tell him when you're chatting, at least you are doing it at home rather than going out and getting into trouble. Make him understand that there are good points to chatting than all the "myths" out there about chatting.
No more fighting. No more yelling. The only way you're going to win this is if you talk to him in a calm manner.

Your dad doesn't like online chatting because he see on television and read in the newspaper of horrible things happening to innocent people from chatting with people online that they barely know. He is just being a father.

No matter how old you are , your dad will always want to protect you , There are so many bad people out there he is just worried....have a heart to heart talk to him and you might have to wait until you move out.... which isnt so bad,,, I would love to have a father that cared as much as yours does,,, M dad never cared..

There are a lot of wierdo's online today. Your dad is only looking out for you. It is your parent's house and if you don't like thier rules and nosyness, then get out. Simple as that.

he's just worried about you...you may not of heard about teen's and weirdo's on chat , who try to get with these kids ...either to rape or kill....or both...
So he only wants to keep you safe...
