I believe what you are asking is if it is illegal to park a car on the grass or other portion of your yard besides the driveway and the answer is in some places it is.

Many cities have ordinances that prevent this. Most of these are enforced by city officials other then the police department although some cities use regular police officers to enforce its ordinances.

There are a couple of reasons why cities have this ordinance. Generally it is purely for aesthetics. Parking on the grass or other areas may damage it and not encourage a good looking lawn, also they feel that many cars parked in one yard just looks bad. They are more common in upscale neighborhoods and wealthy suburbs as opposed to rural areas. There are generally different ordinances that pertain to having junk vehicles in your yard.

A local college town here just passed a law limiting where vehicles could be parked for a different reason. They believed that it would help cut down on large parties in the surrounding neighborhoods because not nearly as many kids could drive to the party. This was in response to complaints from citizens.

Most ordinances like this generally read something to the tune of....you can not park vehicles on any "unimproved areas that were not designed for this purpose" (parking) so it limits the parking of vehicles to only the driveway.

Well during the winter, we parked a car since it wont be driving in the winter and garage and drive way is full (we have 7 cars).

The car was parked right on the grass, next the the garage for months and nothing happened. No complaint, no nothing.

It all depends on where you live. Check with you local PD for an answer. Most places have City ordinances in some neighborhoods to prevent that and City Code Enforcement officers to monitor it.

Most cities have ordinances that don't allow you to have excessive vehicles in your yard. Especially if non-operable vehicles.

Contact your local PD and I'm sure they can give you more information on what to do and who to contact to get it taken care of.
