As I understand it, it was overlaid with gold, and had lots of silver, brass, and precious stones. Seems like it would be worth a fortune today.

The material worth is immaterial. The art and intinsic value alone would be priceless even for only one of the two bronze pillars or the massive cast bronze laver, much less something as simple as the altar of incense (although you might find this object valued on the scale of something comparable from the Tomb of Tutankhamen, say several million dollars), but then multiply these objets d'art by the hundreds and you have at least the treasuries of several small countries.

There is far too much material evidence and documentation to say that the Temple was any kind of myth.

In 1984 it was estimated a whopping 48 Billion dollars. At todays rate not sure cuase the dollar has fluctuated.

I'm sure it would be millions of dollars if such a thing existed.
The fact that King Solomon and his fabulous temple is a Hebrew myth makes such speculation moot.

Well gold plating is not all that expensive.

Granted their was a lot of it, but I doubt the construction costs would be more than your modern day skyscraper.
