I have 4 kittens that are nearly 8wks old. One has really bad diarrhea. No one else shows any symtoms. It is so bad it sort of runs down her legs. She has been dewormed and had her first set of shots. I have no idea what it could be. The diarrhea looks kinda mucousy and is kinda sticky. I know I obviously need to get her to the vet but I can get in with them till friday. Any ideas of what is wrong? and treatment until then??

Also the diarrhea only started about a wk ago. Nothing has changed. Food is the same minus a little wet food but still the same brand and everything. The only change has been her shots. can vaccine cause this??

Call the vet first thing in the morning and ask them if you can stop by and get some ALBON. It works for the runs very fast and is safe for kittens. In the mean time, cook some rice using chicken broth instead of water to cook it. Feed this to the kitten. Feed it to all of them, we do not want to get a jealousy thing going here and if they are getting ready to be sick, it will help them too. You really need the albon though. Up here they call that kitten disease and they will dehydrate very quickly and die. They will literally poop themselves to death. I am sorry that is very graphic, but very true. Albon is very inexpensive and can be given with a syringe in the mouth. It is very sweet and the cats actually like it.

Here are some little remedies that I use. Take minute rice and boil it really well...I cannot stress enough to make sure that it is done all the way. Mix it in with her food about 60% rice every meal for a couple of days. You can also give your cat Immodium AD. Usually I cut the pill in half and give it once and see how it goes. I used to use Kaeopectate..but steer clear..it now has asprin in it and can be very harful for kitty. You might also want to hold back on the food for a few hours and offer just water. I hope I helped. Good luck. Many Purrs!

The one thing you really need to worry about is dehydration. With kittens you may not realize they are dehydrated till its too late. If i was you i would call the vet back and see if they couldn't get you in sooner. Look for signs of lethargy (just laying around not doing normal activities) and make sure she is eating and drinking. if she starts acting funny and is just laying around all the time call them and tell them whats going on. They may be able to squeeze you in sooner. I almost lost a kitten to it once. I was very lucky that they were able to save him. If they cant get you in you may want to call some other vets in the area.

Sounds like a possible bacterial infection or parasite like coccidia or giardia. Any vet should be able to check a direct and fecal float to check for these things. Your cat probably needs fluids for dehydration and antibiotics. Call your vet asap. Not much you can do at home.

I'll bet she caught a disease at the vet.
It's ironic because I cant tell you how many times I've gone to the Drs. office, only to come down with something the next couple days.
