Generally, psychology no longer places any weight on the interpretation of dreams (it's a hold-over from the now laughable days of Freud and psychoanalysis). Modern psychology and neuroschience typically view dreams as a defragmenting (like a computer does) of the brain. Random neurons fire, and the mind interprets them into a cohesive story (dream). They alone don't really mean anything. Your personal interpretation (yours only) is the only place where understanding may be achieved.

You may notice that things you thought of the previous day show up in the dream/defragmenting, other things you may not understand the connection. Ultimately, dreams mean very little and I would not trust anyone to interpret them into anything meaningful.

Yeah, I have been interpreting dreams for years and people write back and say the interpretation was right on the money. I am not saying I can do it all the time, but God has given me a gift to interpret spiritual dreams. And the things I interpret mostly come to pass.

I'm very uncomfortable with the response that puts dream interpretation on an even level scientifically with quantum theory and therefore physics. Physics is probably the most "hard", exacting, scientifically rigorous science out there. Dream interpretation is not a science at all. In a science you have to have testable hypotheses, and you do experiments. There is nothing scientific about dream interpretation. Why not astrology or palm-reading, or cloud interpretation for that matter?

Dream interpretation isn't an exact science, but neither is Quantum Theory. Personally, I think dream interpretation should be left to the dreamer. The only instance in which an outsider could help potentially; is reference the dreamer to sites that contain symbolism information. For instance; A cat walked under a ladder four times and then black paint fell from above and turned it black. What does this mean? I have no idea, but symbolism would say something about very very bad luck. : )

Edit: Wow I just wanted to respond to PeteZa. Please look up the definition of science. There are no EXACT SCIENCEs, science is just man trying to understand his own reality. Science is man's explanation for everything, in effect Science is the opposite of Spirituality. I have studied Quantum Theory for over 11 years, and I will still say it is not an exact science. There is indeed a science classifcation for Dream Interpretation and it is called Social Science, or Psychology if you will, you're in the forum right now for it actually...so please tell me why you place an inherent value on other sciences, and then kick abstract science (in your view) to the curb?

Other people can only point out possible interpretations for a person's dream. The correct interpretation is the one that grabs the dreamer, giving some level of insight and meaning. I can often figure out my own dreams, but sometimes I draw a total blank, and it's nice to hear input from another's point of view. After that, I can always take it or leave it.

I think that other people can HELP us interpret our dreams by giving us suggestions we may not have otherwise thought of. Maybe nobody will hit the nail on the head completely, but other people can often help us tap into our own innermost thoughts.

No, they are MY dreams and dreams show what is going on in my life. My worries, my thoughts, my fears, the things that make me happy and the things that might happen in MY life in the future. So, no I do not think anyone can tell you what your dreams mean because other people are not living your life.
