I mean, you Christians obviously know it's wong, but how do you know if it doesn't say so in the Bible?
"In sixteenth-century Paris, a popular form of entertainment was cat-burning, in which a cat was hoisted in a sling on a stage and slowly lowered into a fire. According to historian Norman Davies, '[T]he spectators, including kings and queens, shrieked with laughter as the animals, howling with pain, were singed, roasted, and finally carbonized.' Today, such sadism would be unthinkable in most of the world."
Perhaps humanity gets its morals from outside of Scripture?

Hey, if you can't find it in the "book", it's justifiable.

what,..you don't think athiest have morals?? that humans are born sadistic and cruel only to be made right by religion? if you take a sadistic person and give him religion, you have a sadistic, religious person, plenty of those folks around, i'm sure,...you know what i think? i think we are re-incarnated and folks who torture animals probably had a rough time of it the last time he or she went through the beast, maybe they were burning cats last time here or the time before that. i mean, how else do you explain people who are so tripped out so as to do some of the most abhorrent and hennious (?) crap imaginable..brothers and sisters of these nutjobs who go on rampages talk about what happy care-free lives they grew up in and can't believe they would do such a thing..they were just "quiet".. m-hem, quiet...OR HE WAS HITLER RE-INCARNATE AND SOMTHING WAS EATING AT HIM!! btw, torturing animals is wrong, it was in the 16th century and it is now.

You are presumably not Christian, yet you are looking for justification of attitudes from the Bible..
Proverbs 12:10
A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.
Psalm 147:9
He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call.

God gave man Dominion over the creatures of the earth.
You don't have to be religious to have morals, you have to be moral to be moral, most religion is big on morals, having good morals, most of mankind fails miserably at it. Knowing the difference between good and evil is evident in most everyone by the time they are eight. Scripture gives a moral code to live with.

In the Bible, it says, on the Sabbath, Jesus risked his life to save an ox. He risked his life, because you could be stoned for picking up sticks on the Sabbath, and He did this for a single ox.
There are tons of scriptures in the Bible that talk about this subject. It says that God knows when a single bird falls from the sky. It says, what ever you do to the least of me, you do to Me.
Just as a side-note, Jeffrey Dahmer used to torture animals, and look how he turned out.

"Perhaps humanity gets its morals from outside of Scripture?"
Obviously considering the shear numbers of seemingly moral people on the planet who are not Christian.
The real question is, where does that morality come from?
To answer your question though, the Bible gives man dominion over animals. Some interpret that to mean we can treat them cruelly, while most nowadays interpret it to mean we are responsible for their well-being... until we slaughter them and grill them up.
