to my domicile or only to my home of record? My home of recoed is Texas but my wife and I are moving back to Colorado. I really hope that they will move us there and not just to your home of record. Just so you know the situation I am getting a medical discharge. Thanks for any input on this matter!

It used to be that they would only ship to home of record. However now I have been told by friend's who recently retired that you get one last move on them to wherever you retire.

That being said, I'm SURE there are many regulations and hoops to jump through and since you are being medically discharged and not medically retired (yes there is a difference and if you aren't sure check) it may not apply.

Also I think that you had to be moving closer than your home of record -- cheaper for the military if you kwim. (Basically what the poster above me said)

I would definetly go in and speak to Transportation about the ins and outs of what they will or won't do. Get the info from the horses mouth and ask to see regulations/supervisors until you are sure they are giving you correct info.

Just to clarify something someone said.. The military doesn't move your stuff... commercial movers do. Companies like Mayflower are contracted to move you just like any other person who hires them. Everytime I've done a move, the movers were always polite and professional. Doing a DITY move is a hassle because you have to pack everything yourself and then you only get reimbursed a percentage of what a commercial mover charges. The only advantage is that you have your items when you move in your place instead of having to wait a few days. When my husband was getting ready to retire, I was living here in Florida while he was still in 29 Palms. Our items were moved, no problem. And Florida was not my husband's home of record.

Unless you are retiring, the military pays to ship to your home of record. If you choose another location, they only pay UP TO the amount that it would cost to ship to the home of record. Good luck!
