Would a hair dryer short out random electronics?

Two of my DVD players don't work, and the color on one of my TV's is going. Is it possible that my hair dryer created a power surge and destroyed these electronics? Everything else seems to be fine.

It can blow the fuse in your outlest, but not strong enought to blow out your DVD
The color on your TV going is the Tube
