Is this a good idea? If so, can I make the trade and get $2,000 back (since the Auidi would be worth more, in my opinion). I live in Richmond, Virginia by the way....the salesman told me the Fit is selling for about 16500...

To me it sounds like a goood idea. Here is why:
A 2001 Audi A6 2.8 Quattro nearing 100,000 miles is going be really expensive to fix and keep on the road. While I love the luxury of the Audi A6 and the sleek rounded lines of the A6 - I wouldn't own one out of warranty.

Next, if the FIT is available for immediate purchase, BUY IT!. The demand is so high on the FIT that if after driving it for a month, you dont like it, you could put it in the paper and most likely sell it for more then what you paid for it.

Your Audi is worth about $9500 ACV according to the dealership I work at in New England. They may give you more for your trade as "trade allowance." But the actual value is $9500.

There is no possible way that you will be getting $2000 back. If you want more for your trade then you should sell it privately.

There's no way your '01 A6 is worth $18,500. I have a friend who bought an '01 A6 2.7 twin turbo (a step up from the 2.8 V6) that only had 35k miles on it six months ago for $16k, and that was from a dealer. KBB.COM show trade-in at around $11k depending on options.
