I heard a lot of religious freaks insulting Bruce Almighty and how its creators would all burn in hell and the usual BS. Now there's a new movie coming out called Evan Almighty and I know for a fact the religious crap is gonna start all over again.
The biggest beef they have is the fact that the man who plays God is black. These Christians have redneck qualities, as their stereotypical belief for the longest time is that God must be white because Christianity was first founded amongst white people and he is Jesus' father. First of all, that has already been proven false, as to be shown in a future documentary. Mary and Jesus shared absolutely no maternal DNA, and that discredits the whole virgin mary theory. On that point, Noah is a fraud also. Just look at all all the billions of creatures on Earth today; it is mathematically and logically impossible to put two of each of them on an Ark and make them breed to continue life on Earth. Heck, half of them would die in 2 days with no food.

I am not an athiest, I believe in God. I just think it's funny how all religion was created before time of legitimate recording devices such as cameras, cassette recorders, etc. To me most religions were just a scam to start with used to take advantage of all the naive people back in the day. You' ve all seen how governments and organisations have used religion as justification for killing and taxing and torturing and all the rest throughout history. Even today, the church has become the most powerful organisation in the USA as they can form alliances to swing elections one way, by preaching to people who God's choice is. It's all a money making scam.

yes!! everytime a movie comes out like that, people i know and people at church feel that they MUST discuss it. they don't realize that it is just a movie . . . that they don't have to see if they don't want to. does it matter what they do because it really has no impact on their lives.

I am a religious freak and I thought Bruce Almighty was funny. It was irreverent and you can't reconcile it with the Bible, but I don't think they were trying to.

Thanks for calling all Christians rednecks. Sure, some are, but most of us are intelligent people and guess what - some AREN'T white!!! God isn't white or black. Jesus was a middle eastern Jew - so he looked middle eastern. Christianity wasn't founded among whites either. It was founded by Jesus followers - who were all middle eastern Jews.

There is no evidence about Mary or Jesus' DNA. We are not able to trace them through descendents, nor do we know the location of their tombs (Jesus' resurrection notwithstanding). And Jesus would have to share his mother's DNA... that's a given since each parent gives half their DNA to their child. Now don't ask me how God impregnated Mary to give Jesus the other half of his chromosomal makeup, because I have no idea.

The flood did not necessarily cover the entire earth. Hebrew is a difficult language to translate because one word has many meanings. There are 37000 words in Hebrew and approximately 993000 in English. The phrase used describing the flood as covering the entire earth may mean the entire known world, which would have been a much smaller area. And after all, God had Noah put FOOD in the ark for the animals...

And ah, no history was valid before the invention of the video camera, eh? Wow. That’s an amazing amount of history that, according to you, cannot be “legitimately” verified. But what about Photoshop? Almost as soon as the video camera was invented, man found ways to change or fake what is seen on tape.

I’m sorry you feel religion is all a scam. Most churches do NOT preach about who to vote for – that’s considered to be inappropriate. They preach about issues in voting, but not “vote for George Bush.” Most churches are not rolling in the dough. In fact, most aren’t even running in the black all the time. Any organization that depends on people’s generosity has that trouble. And yes, religion has been used as an excuse for killing and torture throughout history, but that was done on the behalf of extremists in power when they were educated and the mass of followers were not. So that doesn’t have a bearing on Christianity of today, really.

I can agree with you on your first points, however, what in the world are you talking about Mary, and Jesus, last time I checked they had no DNA evidence of Mary and Jesus. The Noah story, may not be a story of a worldwide flood, but a very large one none the less. Almost every early culture from the Americas to the Far East has a flood story and they all share similar characteristics. The Black Sea, or Mediterranean Sea deluges are some possible explanations of the flood.

Most "hardcore Christians" that I know enjoyed Bruce Almighty, and will probably enjoy Evan Almighty as well (which should be know suprise given that Tom Shadyac, who made both films, is something of a "hardcore Christian" himself).

As for your arguments against Christianity, they are absurd and pretty much everyone here knows it. I think the documentary you are referring to is the "Lost Tomb of Jesus" documentary, which was only supported by one serious scholar (and he has proposed some pretty wacked out theories in the past), and even they never claimed to have any DNA from Mary the mother of Jesus (the filmmakers claimed to have DNA from Mary Magdalene, which no actual historian or scientists believes is at all likely -- it was just another one of those documentaries making sensational claims for a brief moment in the television spotlight and a lot of quick cash).

Whoa. There's some serious frustration going on here. Are you angry or frustrated that we mere mortals can attempt to put a face on our creator? That we try to make Him a little more personal? That we could actually poke fun of ourselves through Him?
Bruce almighty showed the flaws in human character and misuse of ultimate power by not understanding the over all plan. It showed that God doesn't contend with these problems. He gets it. None of us do. We guess it.
Be secure in the fact that you do believe in God. Let the children play and sing. Let the cynics do there thing. You will still have your faith in the morning. God's still there.
Isn't that what it's all about?

I am a "hardcore christian" and I rather liked Bruce Almighty - I think it did a good job of portraying the character of God - loving, forgiving, wise but firm etc.

It's not perfect, but hey, it's entertainment. I don't know who in the world you were talking to who said this... I mean who cares if a black man portrayed God - God is non-corporeal! To have any physical representation of him white, black, red, or purple is to do him an injustice. Jesus was God's physical representation and he was a Semitic Jew... but it's not like that mattered because physically he bore no resemblance to God because God is non-corporeal! It was Jesus's soul and his spirit and his actions and his kindness that revealed to us the character of God...

I'm also wondering where you got your information about Mary and Jesus and maternal DNA - where do you think people got samples of their DNA? I'd love to see your evidence, unfortunately, it doesn't exist...

Also, regarding Noah, how do you know that Noah did not take food aboard his ark? The boat was incredibly huge. Also, how do you know that speciation did not occur after the flood? Noah would have only have had to take a representative sample of the species on earth to have them evolve and break into new species in the years after the flood... think about that! :)

Also, regarding your additional details, Churches are allowed to advocate issues but not candidates. If a church advocates a candidate from the pulpit they *should* lose their non-profit status (though I'm sure it happens...)

It sounds as if you have a huge beef with Christians and since you don't know us all, I'm thinking you are seriously generalizing. First of all, my family watched Bruce Almighty. It was rather funny. Second of all, I'm not sure about the producers, writers etc. in Hollywood. I don't know their personal relationship with Christ and therefore I can't tell you whether they will burn in hell or go to heaven. Third, God does not take the form of man, hence no color. We are made in His image, not the other way around, and Fourth, I have no idea what you are talking about concerning Noah. He put 7 each of clean animals and 2 each of unclean animals on the ark and you are forgetting, with God all things are possible. I'm sure they were just fine for food as God told Noah what he would need. Get your facts straight before you try to discredit them.

Thanks
