A car crash was a previous answer, which is good, but what specifically ( medical terminology) would cause the need for a kidney transplant? In other words, if a blunt trauma occurs to the kidney that is so severe it requires a transpalnt, what is that called?

That would be called renal trauma, I think. But I think that kidney transplants are usually the result of kidney disease, not trauma.
