those who are against it are not content to just live by their rules. they want to insist that everyone else live by them as well.

Most Christians don't really care what two consenting adults do to each other, or with various farm animals. To answer your question, marriage was instituted by God. It is not available to two people of the same sex.
Whatever these two consenting adults do does not qualify for acceptance as a marriage by the rest of us. So there it is, they demand that WE recognize their liaison as a marriage. And that is something that we are not about to do.

We draw this conclusion from the same place that says> Do not murder, do not steal, do not lie. To love your neighbor as your self, to forgive those who trespass against us. A Christan does not "pick and chose" what we want to live by, we either accept it all or we accept none. If you wish to live with another that is your business, when you cross the line and wish to belittle common sense morality, and mock the institution of marriage by saying that anything is acceptable, you will receive resistance. If you do not stand up for what you believe in, then why would you believe in it in the first place. Do as you wish, just be honest with everyone, call it what it is, two people living together, not marriage, you apparantly do not care for what we belive, so why do you care what we call your "living arrangment"

Morality is defined by an ultimate moral authority, God. If you are a non-believer, then you have no objective moral truths.
Sin is “any want of conformity unto or transgression of the law of God” (1Jo_3:4; Rom_4:15), in the inward state and habit of the soul, as well as in the outward conduct of the life, whether by omission or commission (Rom_6:12-17; Rom_7:5-24). Sin is not a mere violation of the law of our constitution, nor of the system of things, but an offense against a personal lawgiver and moral governor who vindicates his law with penalties. Some sins in themselves, and by reason of various aggravations, are more heinous in the sight of God than others (Jn. 19:11; 1 Jn. 5:16).
Since God, speaking through the inspired prophets authoring the books of the bible, declared homosexuality a sin, then it is a sin.
See: Leviticus 18:22; Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9,10; 1 Timothy 1:10.
Thus, homosexuality is just one of a litany of the decay of the perfect moral state found in original creation.
As all sinners, homosexuals can be true Christians. All sin is objectionable to God. Since homosexuality is often practiced openly ("in your face"), the reaction by some who have wandered off the “love thy neighbor” reservation is over the top. It may also be the case that anyone that seems to revel in their sin seems defiant or disingenuous, if they are a self-professed Christian. I believe that the true Christian homosexual struggles daily with their sinful nature.
Some resources regarding homosexuality and the bible to help you understand the issue or the reaction of others:

Happiness to Christians is more than the needs of the flesh. Homosexuals must continue to pray for strength to resist their urges and strive to be obedient to the scriptures.

I believe you're very misguided on this whole idea surrounding Christians. The most important thing to know, is, it is NOT only Christians who disagree with homosexual marriage, and it is NOT Christians who make laws in this country, it is the Politicians. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Yet, you attack us because our opinion is supported by our way of life, which is supported by the Law of Almighty God. Your so called accusations against us makes you no better than us in your blame game. I suggest you reexamine why it is Christians disagree with that behavior, TRUE Christians, and don't get caught in your own game of pointing the finger. Why don't you be accepting to the opinions of people, otherwise, you're basically a dictator.

You mean that Christianity is the only religion in the world that shuns gay marriage?
Gee, silly me -- for some reason I thought that Judaism and Islam and Hinduism and Buddhism and all the rest were against it too.
Maybe you're right. Maybe wee should allow two men to marry each other.
While we're at it, we should allow people to marry their siblings. Or their grown kids. Or ten people at the same time.
Or even marry a dead person who's drawn up a will saying, before the ceremony, that they consent to it.
The possibilities are endless!
On second thought, never mind. I think we should keep marriage limited to one man and one woman. That's the way it's intended, and there's no reason to screw around with it.
The Christian view on this issue is supported by the vast majority of Americans. How's that for "marriage police" authority?

The biblical guidelines on the subject of marriage, may be followed or not followed...if asked,we point to the Bible....It is then up to the couple to decide their course of action....We are way-showers,not police. God will judge us and those whom we minister to in righteousness.

I never did.
How is it that people make this false conclusion that because something is forbidden in the Bible, that it is the believer's decision to forbid it?
Let me clarify it for you. The Bible, is the written word as transmitted to humans via holy spirit (2 Tim. 3:17).
If a person believes the Bible, and what it says about conduct that is displeasing to that God, it is not the believer's decision as to what is and what is not appropriate. Therefore, said believer then has become responsible for not participating in said conduct.
When, though on this forum people ask questions like this and get the scriptural response of God's repugnance for the act of homosexuality, they often leap to the misguided conclusion that it is the Christian telling them they are wrong. If you can not accept that God, in his word, declares homosexuals/lesbians as something disgusting (and of course this includes gay marriage), then my friend
you are guilty of what the gay community used to use as a ploy to garner acceptance. Do you remember when the catchphrase was "You need to have an open mind"?
What I found astonishing about that old tactic was that it is really a cheap attempt to browbeat opposers, and is actually a false challenge. How so? Because the gay community has a closed mind as to the right of Bible believers to have their faith that the gay lifestyle, as pointed out by God Himself, is disgusting.

Is that all you are is a homosexual? Why do you define who you are by who you sleep with? Are you not a person first? What you do in your life is between you and God, not me. Do what you want, but why are you asking for others approval of who you sleep with?
