it's hard to know. yes, i believe some people are emotionalists when it comes to being a spiritual charismatic. for them - you could say that it is learned behavior.
for me - i've been a charismatic all my life. and when i go to meetings that the charismatics have been known for, i can go, get touched by God, and no tears, no laughter no screaming - while that might be going on around me - that just didnt happen to me on that particular night. there have been nights when i've had the tears, laughter, screaming what have you - and people around me dont...but that doesn't mean they aren't being touched by God. learned behavior? possibly for some - but i reckon that isn't the case for most.
hope that helps.

I have no idea how many charismatic churches you have visited, but I have been to many. My observation has been that they are very diversified in the type of worship practiced. By this I mean I have seen some that would pale in "emotional frenzy"[your words, not mine] compared to a Southern Baptist church in the bible belt, even though the two are in opposition over major doctrinal issues. The biggest rift between charismatic churches and other mainstream Protestant churches is the very root of the word, which is charismata, and means"gifts of the Spirit." Many mainstream churches teach that the gifts were only operative for long enough to bring in believers through signs and wonders, whereas charismatics believe the gifts are still in operation,as I do. You want to see a lively bunch, visit a deep south Church of Christ during a revival, or an AME Church in the hood; lively and Godly, all of them. The bible tells us not to be drunk on wine, which is dissipation, but rather on the Spirit. God's own beloved were accused of drunkenness on the Day of Pentecost because of their behavior. All I know is Jesus, and Him crucified. Why is it that screaming for music "idols" and sport figures is acceptable, but raising your voice, heart and hands to a Holy God is "an emotional frenzy?" I have visited many churches that differ greatly from mine, but if they base their teachings on the bible, we can worship and commune with love.

I know exactly what it is. I was a Pentecostal Holiness until I was sixteen years old. When I attended church services the congregation would start getting excited one after the other and begin shouting. Then some of them would start dancing around in a frenzy. It was very tempting to join in with them, I would usually give a couple of shouts but I was too embarrassed to go any further knowing what they were doing. They would begin shouting and speaking in tongues they were self induceing sexual orgasms. Some of them would even go as far as to faint from the extreme sexual gratification. They were sex starved women mostly denying themselves the pleasure of sex for their religion and they just had to let go in Church and call it glorifying the Lord. That's a fact, cut them some slack. it's the only satisfactory sexual outlet they have. BS

It is definitely learned behavior. This is proven by the differing 'manifestations' that crop up and differ from church to church. Some churches have members who speak in tongues in a very similar way to the preacher. Other have members who spin around in the same way. Human behaviour is always learned.
Why does God require missionaries?

Pray that God reveals the truth to you.
People mock salvation and are wrong.
People also mock the anointing of the Spirit of God and are wrong (be careful and don't say the moving of the Spirit of God is of the devil).

All of the above, I'm thinking.
But the "spirit" behind it is NOT holy...
